I got one question about Crysis - is the release retail version any more demanding than the SP and MP beta demos?
I really must get around to sorting out getting this in "My System"... but for now: E6600 not overclocked, 2GB DDR2-800 4-4-4-12, 1GB 7900GX2 (the physically-massive SLI on one card OEM version that came before the 7950GX2). Got no problems running Crysis at 1680x1050 using 162.18 drivers and I think it was set to High and turned down in places, or Medium and turned up, can't remember. Wasn't using lots of AA or AF.
I figure since I could play both the demos with that, the release version should be fine too? But then I see people complaining they couldn't get more than a few fps with their 79xx cards or even newer...
If I can play the SP demo and MP beta demo, do I get the same performance in the retail version?

I would expect so. I've got to say my 7900GTO was woeful in Crysis. Playing at medium settings you should be ok for 1280x1024 I would guess, not sure about higher.
I'm going to try for 1680x1050 at medium settings on my card. Its not worth sacrificing the resolution for high settings or AA, IMO.
Well said. Far cry made computers sad when it came out too. The upside is that it still looks good 3 years later if you crank the settings up to eleven.
I've seen a lot of people cite HL2 in this argument - you can get smooth play even with an older system by playing with the settings, and it still looks decent. However, If i was to play it now, my hardware would be underused because the graphics don't scale up far enough.
I won't complain about the scalability if i can turn the graphics up past 'very high' in a 12-18 months time when the hardware can survive it.
I have found one major problem with Crysis... I loaded up F.E.A.R. Perseus Mandate for review and well, it just looks bland and empty now that Crysis has drenched me in complex, detailed environments.
So I loaded up HL2:Ep2 and it felt the same... rather empty... Curse you Crytek, you've ruined all my other games!
FEAR bugged me more than HL2 simply because it performed badly without really doing anything better - look how square the corridors etc are by comparison for example. At least with crysis it looks substantially better. And yes - to the point where other games kinda look like ass
Yeah I went back for a bit COD4 and it suddenly looked like I'd turned all the graphics down. Crysis is going to be the benchmark for others for a long time to come.
Just bought it as an impulse buy whilst shopping today...
I wonder what colour the smoke will be from my PC
