I don't want to start knocking it or owt, but today was the first day I just couldn't be bothered to have a go. Great game, but the IGN and GameSpot review scores, of 10, were clearly hyped up.
Also, is it me, or does it constantly feel like the frame rate is only barely managing to keep it playable? This combined with the age it takes the cars to get any speed going, the poor brakes, and the non existant steering wheel make driving a chore sometimes.
Am I the only one who throws Niko out of a moving car when his health is on red, to get back to full health with as little fuss? Much quicker and easier than messing around looking for a hotdog stand.
Anyway, anyone else bored yet? (With the game, not me ranting on)
Three Leaf Clover = best mission I've ever played in any game. It was just so damn good, I'm glad I kept a save point just before that
And the mission sometime after that with the gay guy and the moped chase is hilarous
Don't lose interest, you'll meet some great new people and it really starts to kick off on the second island. I wouldnt worry too much if you don't like Manny and Playboy X
So far I'm not sure if I prefer this or Vice City, I mean I have so much money from the Three Leaf Clover mission and nothing to spend it on, like houses and stuff. Hopefully there will be more on the 3rd Island, I've unlocked it but not much happening on it just yet.
One thing that really is a pain is driving back and forth from the 1st to 2nd island when you get a phone call to go bowling or something. And drink driving is great and going to the comedy club to watch Ricky Gervais, ah theres just so much stuff
Is three leaf clover he bank robbery mission I've read about?
I'll go have a quick game now, half pissed, and see if it makes driving any less clumsy.
Yeah it's the bank robbery. And I doubt alcohol will make it any easier. I spent an hour, drunk trying to do that mission were you have to chase a train from the ground in a car/bike but I just couldn't so I went to bed and did it first time easy peasy in the morning
Driving is tricky at the start but now I don't even realise moving the right thumbstick around around the corner and instead of breaking on the corner it's about a mile before it
I learned a valuable lesson tonight:
If you knock over an eleccy pylon...DO NOT get out of your car, let it fall on you, then run over the electricity
I was so close to dying it was uncanny, mind better to die than get busted, at least you keep your weapons
Actually Dave are running back to back eps of QI all night. **** it.
Im still finding it really fun taking my time on the missions though, don't want to rush through it right now, random exploring is far more fun
Has anyone else noticed the amount of anti capitalism, anti-american, (well, generally just about the state it is in now) things in the game? On the internet there is a travel page which tells American's how they should act in 'The United States of Europe' (stuff like wear baseball cap, shorts and T-shirt to all restaurants and a load of other stereotypes) even stuff like the senator campaign radio ads and the cartoon republican space rangers. I remember this sort of thing being in the other GTA's but not to this extent.
I find it all hilarious, but I'm just wondering what some Americans would think of this stuff, if they are not too young or dull to even realise the satire
I've completed 46% and the missions are getting harder, but better.
Played about 4 hours, and I'm bored of it already..
I'm fed up with every car handling like an oil tanker, the fight system being utter tosh, the gun targeting system being utterly rubbish, the camera keeps getting in the way.. etc etc.
The graphics are pish too.
bah humbug!
Maybe if they patch it, it might be worth looking at again, bit it's looking like this one might be getting traded in/ebay'ed..

*Sigh* cars only handle like a barge if you leave breaking right to the last minute. Personally I like what they have done, each car handles differently and as you'd expect. Little hatches are quite nippy, have good handling and stop very quickly wheras bigger executive cars stop slower and you have to go far more careful. Sports cars accelerate and handle the best, again as you'd expect. It was silly in the other games just slamming on the handbrake at the last minute to go round a corner ...
on the same token, the cars handle quite heavy like but taking a bend at 100mph and its not going to be a small turning circle - as annoying as it is i think its a good move.
also, the higher end sports cars handle quite nicely
XBOX: BauerPrime
Exactly right! If people are struggling with handling I've found the bonnet cam view to be the best for high speed driving, you can see so much more of the road!
The problem I think is that you have no apprciation of what speed you're going. Not only that, but the physics seem a little off. The cars about the right mass (ie momentum going around) but absolutly no weight to them. They flip after hitting even the smallest things and just seem very "light". As far bikes, my god they're crap. Mind you, never ridden one myself or know how to ride them fast.
Whether it's a good thing or not, personally I prefered the arcade handling. It was more... fun. If I wanted a realistic handling car game, I would get GT5.
Too many cops around as well...
