Next-Gen console features!

Hi hexus! I'm currently working on my dissertation (based on 7th gen console hardware), and I was hoping some of you guys could help me out again as you all have pretty good ideas and views on gaming...just need to compile a few questionnaires at the moment, one of them is based around what features could be utilized in gaming hardware/consoles in the future? (next-gen). I'm just trying to build a list of possible future features, that i'll ask people & see the popular choices.

So what i'd like to ask you guys is, exactly that, what kind of features could be/what you'd like to see utilized in gaming hardware/consoles in the future.

so far off the top of my head i've got features like; more novel controllers, bigger hard drives, super hi-def (like high end pc displays), universal format?, social hubs, more online play, keyboard and mouse? virtual console? (like remote play).

any more ideas would be great, or an approach to asking this question and gathering information.

Better tools for the development environment, virtualised environments, remote assistance for support, media tools that can be used without turning the device fully on, excellent power efficiency and power-saving modes - next gen devices will play on the green aspect in a big way.

Yeah, I know. But I meant, y'know, real consoles Can you imagine how much easier it would be to have a preloaded copy of GTA activate at midnight on realease day so you can start playing straight away rather than having to go and stand in line at your local Gamestation all night.

I'm not so keen on a wholly download market. I like to have cases and a physical cd and it means I can easily trade/sell the game on when i'm done with it. That gets a lot more complicated if there is no 'physical' game media.

In theory, since downloads cut out a large portion of the distribution chain it should mean prices come down... in theory. I've bought more PC games over Steam in the last few months than boxed and I've had no problems so far, and there's no arsing around with install discs and keycodes.

It doesn't help with the trading part but since the production side of the industry doesn't like that anyway I can't see it standing in their way.

Neuro-net interactivity? I'm thinking the Matrix style head spikes that send the right electrical impulses to your brain to make you feel like you're really there... maybe not 7th gen but eventually...
