Re: Old games that would be awesome remade

I'm sure it's already been remade, but I'm going to second BoulderDash. I plugged in my MSX a month or so back and re-visited some of the games. Also, Feud - wizard on wizard duels were great.

To be honest, Manic Miner/JSW/JSW2 work more on a nostalgic level than anything else, and the music was *awful*.

BoulderDash though, still works. It's a good little puzzle/action game that's fun regardless of the graphics or the (minimal) sound.

The only other games of that era I particularly missed are the Magic Knight series (superceded by graphical point and click adventures), Terminus (platformer/exploration type game. Not sure why I like it so much, really - it's not that remarkable).

It might be fun to remake Ultima 7/Ultima 7 part 2.

I'd like a Populous 2 Olympian version update, but not a re-envisaging like the more recently released 3D malarkey efforts.

Keep it simple using the same interface, layout and scale of humans and buildings. May be increase the scale for some of the Titans, as they were fairly rare and deserved some awe factor. Then boost the 2D artwork and animation to support modern day resolutions.

I don't remember if the original included it, but an ability to speed up play would be handy too, like that used in Mega-lo-mania.

Baldurs Gate sure would look purty at 1920x1200, wouldn't it?

And even though SupCom was good, I'd still love to see an actual remake of Total Annihilation. Mmm.....

Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale Series. (Dragon Age:Origins might live up to them?)
Dungeon Master, Eye of the Beholder (But a mutli player option would be good too, sort of L4D set in fantasy genre)

    Albion

Hired Guns ( old Amiga game)

    Godz
    The Chaos Engine
    Syndicate
    Gauntlet

    2D vertical scrollers:

    Xevious
    Xenon II : Megablast
    Gemini Wing

    3D flying shooters:

The Terminal Velocity series (TV, Fury3, Hellbender - I am still playing the last one on my 6-year-old spare Mobile AthlonXP-based laptop now designated 'Retrogamer' because of all the old games I am playing on it [Worms 2, Sinistar Unleashed, Dungeon Lords to name but 3]).

    Plain silly:

A sequel to "Mr Do's Run Run"

And of course Daley's Decathlon - hopefully technology has now advanced enough to produce a joystick/keyboard that can survive this (My Amstrad didn't)

Major thread revival, but have just seen on Steam that the remake has been released: -

    Carrier Command: Gaea Mission

At £32 , I might wait for it to be in the sale though. Looking at the videos, it does look like they have been fairly true to the orignal game; with Mantas's, Walrus's, islands with definitive roles. However, it looks like the islands will take a look longer to take over. They've also added FPS and "on-rail" elements as well, but luckily it's just for the storyline.

"The best is yet to be"

Also quite interesting reading through this that a few games people asked for have been remade/sequels.
