    PC Gaming Standards

Hi everyone, I'm a long time PC gamer and recently started coding a website in my spare time http://www.pcgamingstandards.com which I hope everyone can benefit from.

The basic idea is to pool all the known problems with modern games (lack of proper widescreen support, forced Vsync, lack of AA and AF options etc) into one database where they're documented and easy to find, most importantly if known fixes are available these are linked directly to make correcting your problems as easy as possible.

I'd just like to stress that this is a personal project I'm working on in my spare time, it's not commercial in any way, it's not there to make money from traffic, there's no adverts, no sponsors, no associates.

The website is still in very early stages, there maybe some bugs, I'd really appreciate your feedback both on any problems you find but on the features themselves, if you think something can be improved or something vital is missing then please post, PM me or use the contact form on the site.

Also because it's still new there isn't many games added to the database, this is a long job and requires access to the games to confirm if they pass/fail all the catagories, so I cannot do all the work myself, to help I have added a add game button at the bottom of the website which will allow you to submit a game for review which will be checked to the best of my ability and added.

I hope you all find this helpful, it's my honest attempt at giving something back to the PC gaming community. All your feedback is welcome both good and bad, it all helps me improve the site.

What are you classing as a 'problem'? Things like forced V-Sync are usually a design decision, not a bug. Likewise lack of AA during deferred rendering is a consequence of the hardware pipeline, not the game.

Forced Vsync is a problem, it causes major mouse lag which makes the game almost unplayable for some people, it also causes FPS drop without tripple buffering enabled which is a big pain in the arse. Vysnc should be a user option since it has such a large impact on how people experience the game.

AA is possible when deferred rendering is used there has been plenty of driver profiles for this and user made hacks to get it working.

Not enough space I'm afraid, the links i've added on the right are just links I personally find the most useful (gamershell for free downloads without signups, and WSGF for all their widescreen fixes) and Bladetech is a link to the site for the guy who did my graphics to say thanks for his hard work.

Feel free to post a link to Hexus on my forum though

Then both of these complaints should be aimed at the graphics cards manufacturers, not the game developers.

    Re: PC Gaming Standards

These features are included in graphics drivers as an override for games so is already an option for the most part, but games need to support this as well, lots of people dont know how to change the driver settings and in a lot of cases it's not desireable to set graphics driver settings for just 1 game.

If people don't know what they are doing, why let them do it in the first place?

I disagree - it's not the place of a game to be interferring too much with the rendering process post-API. If some fancy post-shader re-insertion to the pipeline is needed then that's best controlled by the graphics manufacturers who know the capabilities of the cards and know what they're doing. Games should be using standards that are able to be interpreted regardless of specific hardware.

I'd like a listing of which single player games fail to let you save when you want to so I can avoid buying them.

    I used to play BF3, Battlefield BC2, BF4 and TF2

A good idea in theory at least, will be interesting to see how it develops - I bet I'm not the only one who's seen a game and thought now why didn't they learn from what such-and-such did in theirs.
