Just not sure of this explore to get more resorces stuff, as opposed to ore or tiberium gathering like in the C&C series. Strange for a C&C player like me.

you get used to the resource thing pretty quickly, it's just a different way of doing things... think of it like finding an ore point, then defend it.. only difference, no little trucks going back and forth..
it makes for more tactical gameplay, especially with the take and hold (aka dominance) games..

The resource situation forces you to venture forth into your enemies territories and fighting with what you have as the meeting engagements begin to spring up. Trying to build a huge army and then sweep all before you won't work. You simply can't do it. Also it spreads the fighting across the map as both sides head for the same strategic points. Just as you get one sector uder control the other springs to life. Cool. This had me holding one side of the map while desperately trying to reinforce the other side which was being overrun.
I wonder if the AI would have tried to move its troops from one side where they were really giving me a kicking, to the other if I had gone on the offensive in the 'quiet' sector to relieve the pressure on the pressured flank instead of just holding and trying to prop it up with reinforcements?

"You want loyalty? ......get a dog!"
I will have to download this tonight as I thought the beta was excellent.

Yeah, I can see why the exploring thing would work, its just gettings used to it, after years of C&C, Red Alert, Red Alert 2, C&C Generals, etc.
I'll play the demo a bit more, see if I can get used to it....
It does definitely take a bit of getting used to. I'm having to change the way I think from the usual RTS. The pace of the game is a lot quicker. But like other people have pointed out, the idea is to get away from resource-hording and zerging and maintain the focus on pretty much non-stop fighting.Originally Posted by Vaul
I just played a game against 2 computer opponents....literally from 5 minutes into the game right until the end there wasnt a moment that passed where I wasnt engaging enemy troops somewhere on the map. Wave, after wave, after wave. I was just sitting there thinking 'OMG THIS IS INSANE'
what difficulty setting were you on?
the AI is a lot different now to how it was in the beta, last night, I took on 3 hard AI's, and had a real tough time for about half an hour, before I was able to get the upper hand...
and it is difficult to do, when your opponent is using Orbital Strike on you every few minutes..

Dunno. But I did find that adding extra opponents makes it a lot harder than it does in other RTSes, because the computer is actually decent.
You must be pretty good if you can take on 3 hard AIs. I havent played it that much, I'm waiting for the full game. I need to have a read of the manual (and stop playing as Space Marines, they suck ).
ITS OFFICIAL. BEST EVER INTRO FOR A GAME!. THAT WAS BLOODY AMAZING!
Signatures are stupid
Agreed, before i had even played i was like "yep, buying this game.."
not sure how i'm gonna afford this/rome total war/san andreas though...
Same here Kezzy boy. It reminded me of my Warhammer \ Warhammer 40k days, but I also had trouble getting into it. It does a few things differently, and I don't like that. There are tried and tested RTS 'things' and the reason they are tried and tested is they work.Originally Posted by Kez
Still, its got a lot of plus points; I wont give up on it yet.
Well, its no different then Dune, or red alert.... I dot see what the big deal is! I am running it at 1600 by 1200.. maxed out... it runs fine! Personaly I find the graphics crapy! The AI stupid, and the terain lacking detail! If you like this game you should try battle for dune!
Well, firstly I'm having trouble getting used to the no Ore \ Tiberium thing. Having to expand all the time rather than building a base and collecting with harvesters or whatever.
I think I need to play the tutorial again, as I've still got no clue how to do what I want to do - I know against Orcs, Flamers and Heavy Bolters will help mow them down, but I've forgot what I have to do to be able to build them.
I'll have another go at seeing if I can figure out whats going on and get used to the exploring thing.
