what is really doing my brain in is that I don't have to be in front of my pc, I'm actually to the side of my desk as there's more floor space.

edit: that and trying to pick stuff up with forefinger and thumb not index finger

edit2: steam and gog didn't get kept in the win10 upgrade, they are there just not installed according to win10, getting them working next.

2 things I need to get, back of the hand straps and I've seen some rubber covers for the controller rings (should protect them from getting bashed)

Can take some time to get your head around it, like trying to pick things up and realising you are using controllers.

Awesome to hear you got it running.

USB cards are a pain, partly because I have bought three now and each time the original ones are no longer available. But then the last time I wanted USB 3.1 and a type C connector.

With hindsight, I have spare "front panel" connectors on the motherboard for USB 3.0 type A and 3.1 type C and could have just bought cables going to backplates. Live and learn

What is currently the best VR system available now? I haven't really kept up with it. I would certainly like to try VR, I just have no room space. Which i am hoping will change soon.

Re: Do you have any interest in VR?

Never used to think much of VR when I tried the old Samsung mobile headset a few years back. I got quite motion sick. However after trying the Quest 2 I bought one instantly. Not had the motion sickness since and the MSFS VR experience is insane!! Absolutely love it. So worth the £299

There isn't one, because there are multiple features/components that go into VR and no one set seem to be best at everything.

the Valve index is supposed to have the best controllers/hand tracking and is an all round very good unit, also probably the best software support, however it comes with a very hefty price tag

the Oculus Quest 2 is the best unit for stand alone use and also very good plugged in and used as a normal headset, relatively cheap too, however from what I've read you really need to replace the bad head strap with a better one (the elite strap is another £50) and you need to get a long usb3 cable as well (official one is £80, but a decent one will cost around £35) so the extra costs add to the price.

the Oculus Rift S is decent and currently cheap, however it's going to be discontinued soon, that said it uses the same controllers as the quest 2 so new games should continue to support it for a while yet.

Pimax, this is a less well known company but they do something that all the others don't, wide field of view, the lenses on the latest models are sad to be very good,
the 5k 180Hz model has the highest refresh rate of any VR headset
the 8k model is the highest resolution of any vr headset
Down sides, not cheap, not easy to setup (from what I've read you need to do a lot of fiddling and tweaking support isn't wide spread) and most graphically demanding vr headset

HTC Vive Cosmos and Cosmos Elite, this is an odd one, from all reports not as good Oculus Rift S, the original Cosmos has major tracking issues, the elite (can be bought as an upgrade kit) drops the problematic inside out tracking for the original excellent vive outside in tracking
Advantage is that all old vive peripherals should work with the elite so a wide range of additional compatible stuff you can get to add on.
Until valve released the index the HTC vive had the best software support and that does still carry over to the Cosmos and the larger owner base means it'll probably keep being supported.

This is a good video to watch on the subject https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJy8VU1mV08

EDIT: personally I picked up the Oculus Rift S as it is a cheap, decent all rounder, only bad points so far is the need for a facebook account to set it up/install drivers.
ps if you didn't read older posts I got it 2nd hand for £215 a couple of weeks ago

Welcome to Hexus. I'd probably start by reading the thread you've replied to - in particular the post directly above it

Re: Do you have any interest in VR?

having built a new pc which vr played part of the consideration im having issues getting things to run, anyhting Steam VR launches with a black screen and becomes impossible to end/kill the task - requires a restart.

5800x on an msi tomahawk x570 with a 3080fe and 32 gb of ballistix 3600c16 ram on a fresh install of windows. madly frustrating

Try uninstalling and reinstalling the vr software and drivers, had a similar issue a while back, different device though

Silly question, but have you got the SteamVR app installed? (it's not built into the main Steam client). I fell foul of this when I started using VR again recently, as it'd been a few years since selling my old Rift.

I was trying to play the Lab and just getting a black screen in VR. Installed the SteamVR app and everything worked fine then. If it's installed it should show up in your Add/Remove Programs list.

yeah it was all installed, for whatever reason my system throws a tantrum if i try to launch any vr game with 2 screens running, disable one before launching and it works :S.

Appreciate you guys taking the time to respond and help
