    Quake 4 **Spoilers**

I recently completed Quake 4, so here is a small review of my thoughts...

Quake 4 is a nice intergalactic war game with immense battle & sieges and massive air strike bombardments!
It features very memorable / epic scenes & some of the coolest epic Boss fights by far!

At one point you’re in lead of a hover tank convoy that is off to besiege the Strogg barrier control base that is also under a full scale bombardment from a huge earth-side battle cruiser.
(That spaceship specifically looked a lot like the space federation's frigates in Starwars III, at the siege of Korousant against the Star Destroyers. Those ships looked way cooler than the Star Destroyers.)

The war vehicles that you control are great! That includes Assault Tanks, Hover Tanks & a kick-ass Mech (Similar to Mech Warriors)
The Boss fights are devastating! They’re some of the best you have ever encountered on any FPS till now, really!

At own point (You’re in control of the Mech) you encounter a spider/strider/walker Boss and the huge fire powered used from both sides, leads to the partial destruction of the near by base.
All Bosses are huge, very bad tempered & will not rest until you’re one with the ground!

    Other cool moments are:

The part where you control the hover tank and fight the 1st Spider walker Boss that ascends from the pit was such a cool fight!

The huge Guardian Boss that was chasing you all over at the 3 command towers was a pretty scary experience & the fight it self was pretty tough.

The part where you encounter the officer that was Stroggified and warns you to get back as he could no longer control the huge mechanical body. That delivered a shiver down my spine as to what I was going to face next.
Overall, the story line of Quake 4 is not that memorable, the ending sucked and the overall length is on the short side. The absence of a hyper BFG type weapon was below my expectorations.
The Dark matter weapon was nowhere near as destructively satisfying as Doom’s BFG9000 or Quake 2 BFG10K.

Also, the Stroggification scene of Kane was not as gory or scary as one would have expected it to be. I thought that it would have been shown form a third person perspective, like an FMV sequence rather than a “rail-train” trailer in first person view.
Also, one would have imagined that such a high-tech race like the Strogg, would have used laser beams to cut off the legs & arms rather than chain-saws?!

Personally I enjoyed it a bit more than Quake 2, but I can’t say that it introduced anything new to the genre and it was missing the wow factors of Doom3, Half Life 2 & Far Cry.

So if you want a shiver down your spine, play Doom3.
One that is not the faint of hearts, will absolutely love the dark/sinister & evil theme of Doom3. The atmosphere, story line, plot twists are all excellent and features the old-school gameplay that made the genre famous in the 1st place.
In Doom3 you’ll witness some of the most memorable FPS gaming moments.
A truly awesome remake of the original Doom.

But if Epic, Sci-Fi, War Drama with immense fire power is your cup of tea and don’t mind the short length, please make your self a favour and do play Quake 4.

Yeah, I agree. The final boss was lame. He comes back to life once. Wow. And then you kill him again. He didn't even move when I played. Really, the boss' should be a lot quicker.

But yeah, a good laugh while it lasted.

    quake 4 was superb imo.

A no holds barred classic gun fest right up until the last minute, none of this sneaking round crap...... a good old fashioned FPS.

Although i havent quite completed it (im about 10 mins max from the end) i thought it was superb, the boss fights against the tower guardian and voss were particularly great. I also thought the weapons were a class act, each having its advantages (ok maybe apart from the blaster) and its disadvantages.

Actually, I was referring to the Trade Federation cruisers / Grievous' Flagship, (Invisible Hand) appearing at Battle of Coruscant in the beginning of SWIII.
The ones in Quake IV look similar but not as impressive as the cruisers in Star Wars III.
And yes I liked General Grievous’ flagship more than the Star Destroyers.

    Trade Federation Cruiser Stats:
    http://starwars.wikicities.com/wiki/...rier-destroyer

    SWIII ships:
    http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x...le/sw20050811a

Same goes for the banking clan frigate, albeit smaller.

Both looked a lot more agile, cooler and very Japanese looking compared to the bulky star destroyers in SWIII.

By the way the Venator-class Star Destroyer in SWIII looked relatively smaller than the ones in Starwars IV,V & VI (Especially compared to Darth Vader's Super Star Destroyer in Episode V, which was massive)

But no Cruiser, Frigate or Star Destroyer can match the all mighty SDF-1 Super Dimension Fortress Macross / Robotech

    SDF-1 Specs:

I thought it was a good game, good fun to play

It's no quake game though, I really wish it would have continued where Quake left off, not quite sure how you could continue it but heh i'm sure ID would have come up with a story

Heheheh, glad to see someone knows there SW ships. I love the Invisible hand as well, but it's not as good lookin as the Venator cruisers.

Also gotta love the USS Sulaco from aliens

The Venator was smaller, it was a bit less than 1,100m. The Star Destroyers seen in the films are ISD 1's, and maybe ISD II, which were both 1600m. The original Victory Star Destroyer was 900m, and build before the Ventor, the Venator was more of a carrier, with massive hanger.

As yeah, the Super Star Destoyer (Star Dreadnaught) was bad ass, though still not as massive as the Eclipse or Soverign class, they were much much larger mass, all 3 classes were around 17-19km long.

Eclipse, with ISD II's also in view:

    Wow! The Eclipse is massive!
And I thought Vader's Super Star Destroyer was huge!
The Eclipse or Soverign class don't appear in any of the 6 movies and to be honest, I've never seen then before?
Where do they make an appearance?
Is it in a Game, comic, animated series?

Which one is the Victory Star Destroyer by the way?
Are you referring to the one that was chasing Princesses' Laias ship in the beginning of SW4?

    This site rocks http://starwars.wikicities.com/wiki/Main_Page

And no there not in the films.

The one in Ep 4 was a ISD, ie 1600m.

Yeah, that is one of the greatest Star Wars resources on the Internet!

Interestingly, Darth Vader's Super Star Destroyer (Executor-class Star Dreadnought) appearing in SW5 movie, was longer (19.000m) than both the Eclipse-class Star Destroyer (17.500m) and the Sovereign-class Star Destroyer (15.000m)

    http://starwars.wikicities.com/wiki/...ar_Dreadnought

    http://starwars.wikicities.com/wiki/...Star_Destroyer

The Kuat Drive Yards must have been the busiest place in the Galaxy when building these Mammoths’ of ships!
I can’t even imagine where they would find all the raw materials to build them!

    Apparently there are two types:

    Acclamator I-class assault ship

    Acclamator II-class assault ship
    http://starwars.wikicities.com/wiki/...s_assault_ship

    Take your pick

Well maybe, the size is disputed. The mass of the SSD was way smaller. Also SSD is just a term used by the rebels for anything over1600m ISD size.

Speaking of large star ship (Macross/Robotech Type) dimensions...

    http://www.merzo.net/

This site is intended to allow science fiction fans to get an impression of the true scale of their favorite science fiction spacecraft by being able to compare ships across genres, as well as being able to compare them with contemporary objects with which they are probably familiar.
Apparently, it turns out that the Macross SDF-1 Fortress isn’t as massive as it looks in the series, especially compared to some of the other Starwars ships or Zendradi flagships.
Even the Trade Federation carrier droid battleship is larger!
I wonder how they managed to fit a city of 60000 people inside it?!

By far it's the best site of its kind!
If it had the Starwars, Trade federation, Techno Union & Banking Class star ships, it would have been perfect.

These images are not the right scale by the way, they should be viewed in the gridded home site.

And here are some impressive Star Trek Ships schematics:

    Executor-class Star Dreadnoughts
