The BF2 load times improve a LOT if you have 2GB RAM and a fast hard drive.

No thanks. Not when you can play Ut2007 and Quake Wars instead.

I reinstalled bf2 last week, stuck on the latest official patch, set the game up to my preference, ran setuppb.exe from evenbalance found a server, played a few rounds had a blast job done.

Looks basically like they've added legs to the tanks and made the muzzle flash blue, thrown in a new game mode and a un-needed plot.

I'm not gonna get it unless it's fantasticly better than BF2.

Well I made the mistake of buying Special Forces (Play.com voucher, it wasn't all my fault) so I'm gonna wait till they fix their game development morals, use the a totally new engine or something which doesn't give God himself a tantrum.

I to have given up on Battlefield 2. Unacceptable load times, dodgy patches, poor net code. And my biggest gripe is graphics. I have a 6800 Ultra and yet can't seem to get nice graphics out of it without turning off dynamic shadows and a few other bits and bobs. Yet i can play Fear and Prey, both far far better looking games maxed out ? What the hell is going on there... I won't be buying into BF2142 as i don't want to be spending ages trying to select the right settings to get the damm game to run at a half decent fps

    In configs of 2 * 1GB blocks or 4 * 512MB?

Anyway I've heard that an open beta would be released early August but what happened to it?

Personally, I preferred Battlefield Vietnam with the Point of Existence modification. Gave you modern-day US and Russian forces to fight with each other. Excellent maps, and really absorbing gameplay.

If it's anything like mechwarrior then I shall be avoiding it!

Let's hope it stays close to its roots as a FPS!

That screenshot looks lovely in that link, but will probabaly look nothing like that to the majority of people who go out and buy it.

I'm looking forward to QuakeWars instead. If 2142 is anything like BF2, I won't be bothering with it.

I feel that I should probably apologise for this but...
I really like BF2. OK, the loading times are rubbish and I also hate the multiplayer menu systems etc, and yes it is a system hog. But for me, approx 99 times out of 100 the game doesnt crash, I love the look and feel of it and love booting it up for a (not so) quick blast.
I just thought I should balance some opinion here....
I'm commenting on an internet forum. Your facts hold no sway over me.

Anyone seen the preview in GamesTM? It does sound pretty good I have to admit. The only problem is that the game is based on the BF2 engine which can be a wee bit buggy.... I like the concept of BF2142 as it's quite a departure from BF2 but from what I read there's only going to be one game mode and that's capture missile silos/ defend mothership. There HAS to be some more otherwise it'll get stale rather quickly. I just wish we could hear more about Quake Wars as this is the only comparable game.
