There HAS to be some more otherwise it'll get stale rather quickly. I just wish we could hear more about Quake Wars as this is the only comparable game.
I watched a 20 minute video of the game from GameSpy, and I think they said that the game-mode you mentioned is the only new one, which will complement existing game-modes.

Could be wrong, but that's how I recollect the video.

There is no way I am over clocking to play one game. My system plays all other games fine so why bother for this.

And as for 2142, its just new skins and a new mode Unreal and FEAR do that in a patch, for free and new maps. This is good marketing and will make an ok game but not really anything I am holding my breath on.

I see from an article today that even more emphasis is being put on the ranking system - with even more unlocks and customisation than BF2 rewarded for points and playtime.

BF2 would have been SUCH a good game without the ranking system, and it seems BF2142 is heading in the same misguided direction. I've seen time after time after time, players more concerned about points than they are about teamwork and enjoying the game for what it is. And when (heaven forbid) something goes wrong with them achieving those points - they kick off like you just stole their dinner money!

I often look back to the "good old days" of bf1942 without a ranking system, and wonder what BF2 would have been like...

I also agree that BF2142 has come too early - there is still very few worthwhile mods that have been developed, and those in the process of being developing (e.g. Desert Conflict) must now be wondering how much time has been wasted on a game that has only been given a shelf life of just over 12 months, and I would not be suprised if many of those promised mods get scrapped and work is switched to BF2142 mod development....

EA have still to deliver a fully working product with BF2, and to abandon it now like their "ugly sister" (as they seem to have done with their recent patch releases being buggy or just plain delayed) is not fair to the franchises loyal followers.

BF2142 will of course be massive, EA have a very strong marketing team. But whether it deserves to be is yet to be seen....

Yeah without points, BF2 would of been all about squads and when you get in a decent squad anyone who plays the game will testify the game is a 100x better. 64 player servers are almost unplayable often because of the amount of point whoring going on.

Yeah maybe they should have dont it on hours played and maybe wins to gain ranks. Then you couldnt point whore and you would have to actually play as a team to get the ranks.

After you have all the unlocks the game dimishes a little bit as then you have to whore ti up to get the badges and medals.

Thats the thing, you dont need to whore it for medals and badges. They're pointless, and you'd get them a lot faster while just playing well in a team.

Well Battlefield 2 is THE last EA game I'm buying as its clear to me that EA really couldn't care any less about its customers, the fact they've been slaving away on a completely different game knowing full well that they've just finished a game that is absolutely bug-ridden makes me physically sick.

Although I had a lot of fun in the occasions when the blasteed thing would work it's still not good enough.

I know many games have bugs and glitches but I've never played a game that had so many obvious bugs.

I encourage anyone else who feels this way to follow on my lead.

Well everyone knows EA games are now probably the most monopolizing greedy corporate business out there, but I'm gonna do my bit by not buying this, not buying that other bloody Battlefield 2 game, brothers on something-or-whatever (GOD SAKE stop working on 300 battlefield games simultaneously) and probably all other games that EA have cursed in the future.

Do they still publish HL2 though?

Yeah they do, but Valve can co-publish online so it's not a monopoly

I know Steam can be a little intrusive at times and wanting to check the CD could be a pain for those without a web connection (surely a small minority now) it is a god send for updates.

You get regular updates, full information on the changes and it does it automatically, not the fastest but it does mean you don't trawl the web searching for a mirror and you do get the right one for your territory.

I think similar delivery systems may be the future BUT I don't want it for every game, maybe there could be universal system? Maybe somebody has already made one!?

As much as I admire you're boycott it will not change EAs perspective as they have many more markets than just online shooters. I think the best thing to do it repeatedly tell them what bugs they have and feed back this info until they realise the problem.

I for one though won't be an early adopter on EA products again because of the frustration in the first few weeks.
