    Console Noise Levels

I just came across this article (after being re-directed from engadget) which details noise levels on the 360, Wii and PS3.

If this is to be believed then the Wii must be pretty damn loud when playing
games when compared to the 360 (granted it's only about 9db but still)
because I consider my 360 to be quite loud when playing games.
    Thoughts?

I also find the 360 unacceptably loud, but it doesnt spin down if you leave it idling either, so my next mission is to silence it.

I think I would be quite miffed with a wii if it is even louder!

My Wii is actually dang silent, I can only hear a slight whir when the disc drive loads, otherwise it doesn't make a whisper!

yeah the 360s are reasonably loud sit near its a bit annoying. Turned a ps2 on b4 and that was a little too loud for my liking as well - stil u have to keep things cool somehow and they havent reached the sound of jet engines - yet

That graph is absolute carp. My Wii is almost silent, as is my mates.

Reportedly, PS3 is far quieter than the 360 also. This info is about as useful as all the goat pleasers that keep claiming PS3 games will cost £70.

I've sat next to my friends (ok about 2ft away) for nearly 20mins before I realised he left on before we went out, didn't notice anything. No music to cover up just talking.

Do hope thats not decibels because it is very, very wrong.

I call BS on the graph, I've played the 360 and own a wii. The wii massively quieter than the 360 no matter what it's doing. I've read in many places the the PS3 is also much quieter than the 360.

I smell fan boys, and even if not their testing is hugely flawed, looking at the pics.

I agree with all the above, the 360 is surely the loudest of the three. Having seen the 360 in action a year earlier, I'm sure both Nintendo and Sony went to a lot of cost to ensure their machines were quieter.

Having owned a Wii I can state that it does make a loud noise when you first start it up (well, mine did) but this noise lasts a few seconds and it's near silent after that. Slightly louder when you start a game, but I wouldn't go as far as to say noisy.

My 360 is similar, it makes a loud noise when you first start it up (there's always a disc in the try and that spins up on first boot). Once at the dashboard, my 360 is generally quiet too. When playing a game, it is loud, there are no ifs and buts. The DVD drive on the 360 is where all the noise comes from, having to spin at such a speed it makes a right old racket. Fortunately, the 5.1 system in the room means I barely notice it.

I've yet to test the PS3 but from what I've read, it's generally silent most of the time but can get progressively louder the longer you use it. I presume due to fans speeding up the hotter it gets but I doubt it'd be anywhere near enough to call it very loud.

My 360 is pretty damn noisy too. I can only really tell when I've paused and there is no SFX/Music to hide the noise. I'd say it's about twice as loud as my PC.

I did think that this was slightly suspect as the 360 really is damn loud. I can't imagine that the wii would be that loud.
