Definately depends on the area you are in. Our city link driver/service here is terrible. The stuff gets here on time (apart from saturdays), but it more often than not has a bash/footprint/rip/crush and is always presented with the damage facing away.

Others seem to like city link.

Royal Mail have been excellent round here, as have Parcel2Go, but again, it seems to vary widely depending on location.

This sort of thing changes so much between areas. Citylink here are fantastic - always on time and the courier generally stops for a chat. Royal Mail and DHL are the same - hell, even Parcelforce work properly in this neck of the woods!

Still a bit worrying how any firm can lose three laptops out of five though...!

My understanding is that all Citylink branches are franchises. Not quite sure how it works, but that does explain how my local branch have been known to both suck and blow at the same time...

    LOST???

Good grief, that's bloody terrible; CL are usually OK round here - sounds to me as though they have a light finger problem. Are they going to compensate?

DHL have always seemed pretty good to me.

we constantly have problems with them. they try to deliver when we are at work, but dont leave a card saying they have. Never deliver when they are meant to if we specifiy a time etc.

it would make sense that they are franchises.

Umm, the local branch used to be pretty bad a few years ago - so much that I became weary of ordering from anyone using that service (often got 'ninja carded').

But these days, they are relatively liable. The only complain I've had recently, though I am not sure if the fault lies with them or the sender, was when I was carded saying that the item would be automatically redelivered the next day, only to find out that I actually needed to call them to re-arrange the delivery. Oh, and the phone number left on the card had no option to speak to a live person. I had to find another number from the website. But at least I do get the items eventually.

As far as sending with them, I've only used them once - it worked, but I won't be using them again: they are pretty far from where I live (the whole bus trip takes over 30min, excluding the bus change required and the walk after the nearest bus stop - it's can quite easily take two hours by the time I return once I add everything). I found it slightly cheeky that the price list that I was provided did not include VAT, so contrary to what I thought, I didn't save a penny.

I wish people would give all couriors a break, its clearly dependant on where you live.

I've only had one problem with City Link myself, but Amtrack for example claimed they lost two, yes TWO 21" CRT monitors and then about two weeks later they found them in their warehouse and then a further week to deliver them.

But apparently they have a good reliable service elsewhere in the country.

Another thing, smaller companies will usually be better than the bigger companies. Think about it won't you.

We had problems at work with City Link. Damaged boxes, stuff missing etc. so we went to Business Post. They've always been top notch. Have to haggle a wee bit for a deal though.

    Deutsche Post?

I think they are one of a few who don't operate a franchise system - all of the drivers/vans are all employed/owned by themselves...
