Withdrawal symptoms :(

Relapsed Oh well, I thought I was going a bit too fast.

I had a bad weekend and then some afterwards. By Monday I was going up the wall. I thought I'd stick it out but couldn't stand it. I was kidding myself and that don't do nobody no good no how. Had to take a 30mg on Tuesday afternoon. Back to the GP today (a different one, one with actual, real drug nous !) and he was amazed I'd lasted this long. I was to go immediately back onto 30mg once a day and he would get the pharmacist to sort me out with a proper withdrawal regime.

I'm now on what they jokingly call the infinite solution - a 300mg bottle of liquid DHC solution set initially to a 30mg dose, and each time I take a dose out, I top it back up with a soluent (sugar water). This means that over a period of THREE weeks (oh bugger) my dose will VERY gradually diminish without me even noticing. The pharmacist has already got the stuff in (ordered this AM at 11) and has asked me to revisit to have it all explained with blood level charts etc.

I wish I'd gone to this GP last time. I feel OK on the 30mg a day, so at least my free weekend has done some good. I'll keep you posted (again - sorry )

Dude don't apologise. You gave it your best shot. There's nothing to be ashamed or sorry for. Sounds like the doc has given some good advice on a proper detox regime that'll work.

These things just take time.

a weekend without ! well you had the worst, im sure by the time your bottles empty you will be fine...

and at the end of the day, the odd pill after if you get real bad pain is not going to make you an instant addict again.

Cold Turkey on this kind of addiction is really tough from what i hear (never experienced), im ok off the smokes I think, lost my temper a couple times, but ok nonetheless.


This kind of withdrawal method appears to have some merit at least, weaning you off them slowly, heres to ya

Yep, I finally cracked DHC, took my last *very bleddy small* dose on Thursday eve, and am feeling great

I did some maths and worked out that using my "infinite titration" I was only on a 2mg dose anyway !

The last of the symptoms are receding - stomach cramps, loo problems, restless leg - but I can cope with those minor disturbances.

A week or so and I'll not notice anything.

There are so many other ways to manage pain out there... if you're still having problems with it, get referred to a proper pain management specialist, My sister did and she's now on an ideal cocktail for her lifestyle etc.

Gonzo - yes, sleep is a bit weird right now, but I'm sure the restless leg will pass. I'm still on Trazadone for bedtime, which did help enormously, but it seems to have had it's effect reduced due to the loss of the DHC - must check with the doc about that.

Valium can be very hard to get off, believe it or not.

The withdrawl can last months and it can be a nightmare (sleep trouble, shaking etc) possibility of seizures, death too if sudden withdrawl takes place from a very high dose.

I have never taken opiates, but I have read that valium is harder to taper from so if you have got off valium the opiates shouldn't be too much worse if not the same but it probably depends from person to person.

I know that ideas been mooted several times (although I think it was in terms of closing old threads rather than deleting them), but it doesn't seem to have been implemented. Besides, you've got me intrigued as to what you were searching for that threw up this thread now!

I searched for Valium as I take it and I want to get off it and I have found other people who say it is very hard to get off and can take months of slow tapering as it were. I take 20MG because I used to drink too much but have cut down now to sensible levels.

I would have thought an archive forum would be a good idea - a place where threads that are over 6 months old could go to and you would have an option on the search, where you pick to search the archive forum or 'all other sub forums' for a particular search term...just an idea to stop this kind of thing happening again.
