I'm thinking communiting with a monkey could help get you more room, no one would sit down on the seat if you had him there, and everytime someone went too sit down you introduced them to each other, warning that potential seat filler that "he's a little shy".

Sit baby monkey next to you, and daddy monkey next to him. Make them hold hands, then hold onto baby monkeys hand. When someone gives you an odd look, just tell them they aren't used to traveling so like to hold hands
