Dogs get my vote over cats every time.

For 1 they interact with you all the time and are happy to see you, whereas cats come and go as they please, give you the "what you lookin' at" look and whinge only for food and cats never fetch or want to play like dogs do.

Dogs also do not catch mice and other small animals like birds and then 1/2 chew them on the carpets and then arrange the internal organs in a " look what I've got" pattern.

Dogs ftw! I love my dogs, great fun & great companions. Keep you fit too.

Downside is walkies in crappy weather, digging holes, chewing furniture, having to pick up the crap & house training. But whatever animal you get...get pet insurance!

The only thing I don't like about cats is the damage they do to the local wildlife.

As a group I'm opposed to cats in principle but individually they're often quite charming. A bit like the French.

    Dogs are great.

Cats I say. Have a lovely little rescue cat who uses her tray or outside without fail, she loves being with us and always meets us after work/night out.

    Cats every time.

Dogs smell, poo everywhere (cats have the intelligence to bury it ), require more maintenance than a cat, need walking every 5 minutes and have a nasty habit of waking you at 6 in the morning, for a laugh.

I, well actually it's the oldies have a silver merle lurcher who was bred for hunting, but being the softy that he is hated the sound of the guns when they were hunting and hid behind the car or anything he could.

When we got him he was a sight to laugh at. He looked sad and was covered in vomit due to being car sick, but yet there was something about him which told my parents he'd be an excellent dog.

Now, fast forward 7 years and everytime I go round he greets me with a smile by flashing his teeth when sitting in front of me. He also likes to try and hug you by putting a paw on each of your shoulders but the clumsy git always seems to catch your face. He then puts his head on your chest for about 10-20 seconds and then gets off and sits down next to you.

With Alex my brothers little son he's fantastic. He'll play with Alex all day and alex likes nothing more than to give him food all the time like wotsits, quavers and chocolate. He doesn't snatch out of your hand but precisely removes the items from your hand without catching you.

Would I change him for a cat? You have to be having a laugh
