    +1

Tamiya Boomerang then the far better Kyosho Turbo Optima Mid SE

Regarding batteries, yes they used to be the bane of my existence as well, but things have really changed...

    Brushless motors and ESCs

    NiMH 4400mAh 6 cell packs

Below are custom for Traxxas cars
    LiPO 12000mAh @ 7.4V
LiPO 5000mAh @ 11V for brushless eg this pack

The reason they're popular is zero noise pollution so you can run them anywhere

long ago I was Trig....Kyosoh Optima

I made a battery with regular batteries, not rechargable and so had a much higher voltage (1.5v per cell, vs 1.2) and it lasted longer....once!

If you can find a small pastic bottle, with squeezable sides, you could do what I did when I was 14, though I got baned from my club for cheating

Fill the bottle with contact cleaner.... the stuff that if you spray it into the motor's brushes, makes it go hell for leather faster.

Then, fix into onto the chassis, with the small-holed-nozzle of the bottle pointing into the contact/brushes area of the motor.

Then put a really tight elestic band around it, so that it's being squeezed... the contact cleaner will drip out, consistently and you car will be so fast as to scare the opposition. Who will then gang up on you, steal your tools and drop you in the crap with the club secratary whol will revoke your membership and ban you.

    I'm not bitter though

    Evil Zak
Damn fine car too, dreamed of owning one for years as a kid.

I've a Schumacher Cougar 2000 (circa '94) in the depths of the garage I want to resurrect. Even bought a modern battery recently but the whole lot's trapped in the garage. Frankly I'm a terrible driver of these things but hell they're fun!!!

    Maybe next year ......

I have a SWB Tamiya Clio Williams, finished in metalic blue with dark windows and the William style wheels. I'm meant to be selling it though, but keep putting it off!!

    Re: RC Cars

Ive been doing it on and off all my life really.
    - First started racing at a club at the age of eight (im 20 now) with a tamyia fast-attach-veical.
    - Then swifted moved onto a second hand schumacher cougar 2 for the next few years.
    - Racing on road rwd buggys, with foams. Indoor during the winter. Mardave cobra for a second car. (just for 'playing' with)

Then i had about a two year break, during which i bought a duratrax maxST, a cheap little 10th statium truck, as my first nitro.
    - Always ment to race it 'when it was sorted out enough' never did.
    - Then did a winter indoor with a Mardave V12 i got, again second hand.
    - With the plan of geting a Pro4 or somthing to race come summer.
    - Then i was that busy durring that summer that i didn get 10th, just race a few evenings with the v12.

Then i got a Hyper7 (8th rallycross nitro) mid way though 6thform, and raced that a bit.
    - Went to uni, couldnt race because i didnt have a car to get there, but drove on the football pitches and did a few races when i got lifts.
    - Then got a fulll sized car, and still didnt race much more, because of not having the time.
    - And i also now have a pair of rc10gt's, one of which in running, with the other as a doner!

But yeah, to cut a long story short, im hooked! And 8th scale is the way forwards.
    - Never sold a car yet eather.
