Ok, well the can't be arsed tuna was a bad example ... how about one of those really lazy tins of ham? The ham slides out because the rim can't be bothered to sit inside the tin and so doesn't get in the way.

thats a point, something on the bottom of the can that can be removed to make a hole to get rid of the vaccuum holding it in is a good idea - this applies to meaty pet food too. you have to fish around with a fork or shake the bastard to death... would solve it!

One could design a can that rips the same way. Of course it would leave sharp edges that would almost certainly maim someone within days.

Eagles may soar, but weasels never get sucked into jet intakes.
Surely some kind of heavy hammer with a vast spike - possibly pneumatically powered and with its own generator and compressor and perhaps with an exoskeleton so you have the strength to use the hammer and perhaps with some kind of laser sighting equipment so you never miss, maybe replacing an eyeball - is a much simpler solution to opening cans of corned beef?
Tsk, you engineers always have to make things so complicated.

I want to see people moving away from having multiple materials in their packaging. It makes things far more difficult to recycle and it's really unnecessary - it seems to cater more for those that can't be arsed to put a bit of effort in.
As for the corned beef thing. Open both ends and push it out - the meat stays intact and there's no need for the ring-pull. Less materials, less waste.
^^Have you never considered the potential of hammers....??
x86, its a dinosaur that definitely needs redesigning
or perhaps those stupid "child proof" bottles that most children can open in seconds whilst i have to resort to using a bandsaw to open it
on the subject of packaging - the plastic cartons that memory cards, xbox gubbins etc comes in? who the hell does that? you need scissors to get into the thing and if you want to sell the item on you have to give them a chopped up package. HEADSETS AND WIRELESS ADAPTERS ARE NOT CRISPS, THEY DO NOT TASTE, LOOK OR COST ANYTHING LIKE CRISPS. WHY DOES IT COME IN SOMETHING NON-REUSABLE????

Yes heat-sealed plastic is perhaps one of the worst inventions of all time.
It virtually guarantees either an injury to yourself and/or damage to the object inside. Bloody annoying.
I think this forum has a real issue with plastic bubble packaging! Seems to be a constant gripe.

Yes. That winds me up. I bought a Krooklock thing for my car last week and it took a Stanley knife and some tin snips to get the damned thing out of the 'cking plastic package. What if I had wanted to use it straight away? I would have been stuffed (except that I always carry a Swiss Army Knife).
