    Job Advice

Im currently doing 3 AS levels at college and only have weekend and Wednesday off but i am looking to fit a part time job in there somehow, because tbh ema just isn't enough money to buy things i want.

So i was wondering what should i do for looking for jobs as a 16 year old, ask in shops? any sites i could use?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks Cozwin.

    Re: Job Advice

I worked in a co-op at that age. Nothing special but get's you a bit of money.

When I was 18 i worked in a Staples are at the time they were paying 16 year olds very handsomely so if there is one local to you it might be worth checking out.

You are pretty much stuck with resturants/fast food, retail or supermarkets though.

    Re: Job Advice

Your best bet is to ask various stores if they have any jobs available, just go in and ask at the customer service desk. If you're well dressed and polite (definately no popular slang!!!), they'll often have something because few stores ever manage to keep enough staff

I love how ema isnt enough hahah
Makes me sound dead old but i went to college when u didnt get paid just for turning up and doing some work that was expteceted.
Supermarkets, pubs (glass collector dont think u have to be 18 for that) Co Ops are usually a good place for young people

    Permanently confused

    Re: Job Advice

    Definitely what lucio said.

Also catering outlets usually take -18yr olds, you just won't be able to work behind any bars!

I was a lifeguard at 16 then went to work in the body shop when I got made redundant.

There are plenty out there, especially now the studes are back studeing. Just gotta go ask around, take a CV with you.

I'm 19 and work in ASDA part-time while at college - well, it's only a Saturday, but I can put in for overtime. It's a great place to work. Pop in to your local store and ask if they're taking on any staff at the moment.

    Re: Job Advice

Ur best bet would be supermarkets tbh, I started working at Waitrose when I was 16, so pretty much go to any supermakets and retail shops e.g. Whsmiths etc, ask for an application form, or give them a copy of your c.v.

Also try local pubs that serve food, they may well be looking for people to do the washing up etc, its not glamourus but its a job.

    Re: Job Advice

When I was at school doing A-Levels, I used to clean the science labs after school had finished. It meant working 2 hours every afternoon after school (til 5.30), but it paid very well compared to other jobs, plus it gives you your weekends free. Talk to whoever does admin at your school/college if that might interest you.

Otherwise as said above supermarkets, shops e.t.c. Have you considered (*gasp*) McDonalds? Although i only recommend it as a last resort (I worked there for 6 months when I was 17, it was awful!)

    Re: Job Advice

Any high street shop would hire you really, just pick one you like and ask if they've got any suitable vacancies. I worked at Game for a while (which was less fun than you might expect )

    Re: Job Advice

I would definitely recommend the waiter route, it will take you at least 6 months to get to, waiting on stage, but the money is awesome. I can come home with £80 quid tips on friday night tax free, and then my 5 pound an hour wage ontop. I recommend pizza express, pritty good company, and you get to make your own pizzas everyday. Could you ask for more?!

    Re: Job Advice

I lucked out when I was studying for my alevels, as the Head of the School I was studying at offered me a job in the IT dept. Paid well for the time I spent there, and was fitted around my studies, so I always had my weekends free.

As has been said though, try local places, all of them will eventually need help at some stage or other, and if you are polite and well dressed when you speak to them, they will quite often be able to point you in the right direction.

    Re: Job Advice

I work part time at Tesco while i'm at college, i go straight there after college on a monday, but also work after college on a wednesday and then again on a saturday.

Supermarkets always need people but they tend to pick students as they start off with lower pay and usually leave after a year cause the work is only part time.

    Re: Job Advice

Glass collector is a good one, I did that (and in fact quickly became an underage barman ). Money was better than shops and the like, you don't get tips like a waiter (management at many restaurants steal tips, anyhow) but you do meet lots of chicks
