I don't miss dial-up, not for a second, especially given that for a stupidly long time we couldn't get broadband in this house...go BT! Of course the speed didn't stop me gaming over it and racking up huge phone bills...

Some of the dial up services weren't too bad, but I can't remember the names of them all.
I used to play online shooters like Quake on dial up. Some where really rubbish, and some really impressed me. I remember one of them I called up and complained that it wasn't running very fast and they did some tweaks and I ended up getting a steady 5-6k/s connection which was about as good as it gets. It never disconnected and it had no download caps or anything, so I was really happy with it.
The only problem was the paying per minute... Ouch. I got some huge bills

I was on IC24 with free weekend calls. You got D/C ever hour then had to redial about 50 times to get a free spot on the server. I actually killed a modem like this.

btw haven't had much truck with these but u can get vegetarian version if you don't mind the weird medicinal flavour.
