LAN Party: Noun, an event were people owning computers get together and form a local area network (typically using CAT5/6 rather than wireless). For a typical large party of 70 people:
4 will be watching anime (2 of which will be using linux)
2 will be coding (1 of which will be using linux)
1 will be playing TuxRacer and Kbounce (linux user with no other games)
4 will be engaged in a game of Tetrinet (1 of which will be using linux)
6 will be leeching files and listening to music (a common downtime activity for when not gaming, and popular with the linux people. Bonus points if someone has set up a music server)
2 will be playing DDR
3 will be sleeping
2 will be out on a snack run or pizza collection duties (bonus points if chocolate coated coffee beans are involved)
2 will be reading websites and making blog posts
2 will be playing on retro-consoles or emulators thereof
1 will be panicking over the risk that someone might damage their PS3 (or newer, more expensive console)
2 will be reinstalling their OS
1 will be regretting getting a motherboard with a BIOS reset button available on the front of their case
1 will be building a system from scratch
4 will be playing World of Warcraft
1 will be playing EVE Online
3 will be playing DotA
4 will be playing WC3 tower defence
2 will be playing some sort of racing game (probably solo)
7 will be playing the no-longer-in-fashion multiplayer game
15 will be involved in the current popular game tournament
And 1 will be panicking over if the building's power system can actually support all those systems, and if they're going to be left cleaning up all the mess afterwards
Edit: As the LAN party size gets smaller, the proportions tend to do the same. However the percentage eating or sleeping tends to increase and the number doing system maintenance or rebuilding remains the same, and there will always be one person who is formally in charge panicking The rest of the changes depends on how pro-gaming the group is - a few mates having a gaming LAN will likely see most of them gaming, whilst a geek organisation could well find itself with 25% of those there watching anime

Sounds great! Count me in if there's one! (although you'll most likely have to explain it more in-depth )
but what if i moved into the mysterious shop in ankh-morpork? then you would never find me
contemplates the idea, but decides that it takes too much effort to find in the first place
TBH the easiest way is to use a local college and nice some space in there (it's almost educational...... well JK will learn something )
Greek != geek
(although i used to know a Greek Geek)
is this what my pc's going on about when it tells me i have 'a local area connection network cable unplugged?' i had no idea what i was missing out on.... now i'll make sure it stays unplugged
