Why would that one persons opinion be swayed by what an 'advert' on a bus says
Waste of money.

The advert isn't trying to make anyone less ignorant. You do know that christian fundamentalists advertise recruitment/indoctrination events on buses across the country, right? It's not as though they leave it at "Be nice to people and try to get along with everyone" either....it's all about eternal hellfire waving arms and speaking in tongues.
Do you think that the kind of people who attend those course are generally rational, intelligent, content, loved, solvent, functional members of society, or are they generally a bit troubled and desperate, 'easy prey'?
Isn't it nice for a change to splash a kind message on the side of a bus, with no strings attached?

EDIT: Oh I guess I should also point out that if advertising didn't work it wouldn't me a multi-billion pound industry.
Great idea as they get nothing out of it as far as I see (i've skimmed over the news on it but don't see them selling anything) I guess they know its a bit of a pointless exercise but I think it's a great idea for that very reason.
I'm not donating though, after all I'm comfortable with what my 'beliefs' (or not in my case) are plus it's a bit cheeky it's only in one City!
My father in law (who loves his beliefs & dismisses evolution...) made a comment tonight that any society without religion didn't turn out so well.
I guess he is partially correct but IMO religion is a way to control people so yes, I guess it does 'calm the masses', I'm not including fanatics/etc here for the sake of arguement & relatively low numbers of them compared to overall believers.
I personally think that society does need some ruling but does that HAVE to take the form of religion(?) & so an alternative of just 'Be nice to each other/enjoy life' is a fantastic message to advertise.

I think that someone has their atheistic views mucked up a little..Please God, remove all religeon from this world.
I'd support it, but I don't have the ability to. Good cause though
Well you've done it now! You have damned yourself to eternal...er...um...to, to... um [Dylan Moran Moment]Forever being whipped with spaghetti carbonara that has sharp cheesy bits![/Dylan Moran Moment]
I've spent some time on another forum that is mostly American (yes god help me), but all of the people who have displayed a Darwin fish have not had their car vandalised, even those in redneck country. Some have been removed, but no keying/scratching/damage has been mentioned.
It's like any aspect of life: you'll get a-holes doing bad things (or the equivalent of 11 year olds in the mid 80's, thinking that it would be cool to get a VW sign and on spotting one , standing by whilst your mate tried to remove it by putting both feet on the radiator grill, hands on the prize and pulling like hell. Only to be disturbed by said owner! Those were the days. Made up for it by nicking the Audi rings and a VW sign from a couple of senior teachers who in the end, went classroom to classroom to find them, searching peoples bags and when they came into my class they went straight for my mate and I to search our bags, finding nothing. We were sat there in science class with the stolen items pressed between our knees and the underside of our desks!! )
On the first point I think that whomever pays the advertising budget gets the space and as long as their advertising/message is within "the law of the land" then it doesn't matter.
Secondly I think this campaign is aimed at generating debate. Obviously the message has to be short and sweet, catchy and all that. It's a talking point and a debate starter. You obviously can't have a discussion via advertising unless you are very rich - I now have visions of two immature lottery winners (or should that read "weinners") paying to have WTFLOLIPWNZU on the side of London transport.
I donated a small amount; £10. This has never been done before and the more we raise the more that smarmy, self-satisfied, supercilious, arrogant, godless, evilutionist, Dorkins™ has to pay up.
This is an interesting statement, because I am certainly with you with regard to advertising. I don't feel that I am persuaded by advertising at all unless it's manufactured or sold by JML in which case they all seem to come across as superb products to me yet somehow I never actually seem to buy them. Advertising obviously works otherwise companies wouldn't pay squillions for time on TV/Radio/Bill Boards/F1/Football Shirts/Intertubes etc and therefore I can't see the difference between religion, atheism or Dolce & Gabbana in that context. I now have visions of the Fast Show where Jesse emerges from his shed dressed in wellies etc and states, "This week, I 'ave been mostly praying to Zeus!".
Edit: (Said in a Brummy accent) Multi-quote, it's not just for car insurance, you can do it on web forums now don't ya'know!

When I saw this on the news earlier they'd put the first advert on a bus from the garage I'm working at tomorrow! I'll see if I can get a picture.
You do realise that posting in this thread is going to be God's hit list?
Oh, damn....

Why this one, sir!
I find this story quite heartwarming - I think it's a healthy sign for our society we can have various points of view reflected.
You think?
Ok I'll start a website/campaign group to make an exact replica of that advertisement.
But I'll replace the word God with Allah.
- Firstly, I think I'd double the donation intake.
- Secondly, I think I have more chance than outsprinting Bolt (or a Bolt of lightning) than it going on a bus in this country.
- Thirdly, I think I'd be in some serious trouble fatwaa/jihad wise.
It's funny, a lot of people swanning in, kicking Christianity when it's down (despite the fact that it's evolved into a pretty "safe" religion in the UK - fanatics, money grabbing evangelicalists etc) when the real issue we'll have is in 10 or so years when the Muslim population grows. As a minority religion they're already swinging serious power, when it grows (and it will) our "free" speech will be in for the biggest trouble yet.
1 post on Sony's forum got them to delay little big world.
1 cartoon caused major problems for Denmark (I think it was Denmark).
Oh well. Trouble a brewing and everyone's busy kicking the helpless man, not noticing the massive bloke behind them....
NB *This is not an anti-Islam rant, as you all know I'm religious and have no problems with any religion as long as the religion stays within the boundaries of the law of the country it's practiced in, and all religions get a level playing field.*
The advert is largely due in reaction to adverts by the Alpha Course but God is going to be God for whatever religion is around, surely?
