    Odd ringing in my ear

Ever now and again, for literly 3 seconds my left ear will sound muffled and an odd high pitch buzz will start, it then disapates. I have had this all my life but its starting to happen a few times a week now (its always been a very rare thing)

Tomorrow I am going to get some ear drops to see if its that, if not I am off to the doctors.

What do you guys think it is?

Wax buildup? I guess you spend time in datacentres or server rooms?

I find that I get ringing in my ears and muffled hearing from working mostly in large comms/data rooms etc. As the constant drone/pitch of A/c and equipment fans really has an effect. Foam ear plugs do help a lot but the nature and hours of the job make me forgetful (stupid) Ears naturally protect themselves with more and more wax as volume rises up to a point.

I find that I have to carefully clean my ears pretty much every day to keep from going deaf. But it may help to see a nurse and have them checked out mate.

Re: Odd ringing in my ear

Have you just suffered from a sinus, throat, or ear infection? You can get it during or after one of those. (Thats what my GP said)

I would advise you to go to the docs first before you get any ear drops.

that is a good point, the server room has a constant dull noise and I spend over 40 hours a week in there. I have also just been away and I suppose the pressure during the flight didn't help. I'll go the doctors.

Re: Odd ringing in my ear

I'd put money on it being the onset of tinnitus. I've had it for almost 10 years now, and if you let it get worse it will disrupt your sleep and all kinds of nasty stuff.

I got it by exposing myself to high volume, high frequency sounds (drumming and sound engineering), but I als oreally feel it whenever I'm in a server room. If you're going to be around that stuff for more than 5 minutes or so you need to get some ear defenders of some sort - the yellow foam stuff is ok, but there are far better solutions that will just cut the top end.

Got tinnitus too. I have learned to live with it now.

Get your ears syringed. Might help

Re: Odd ringing in my ear

Yeah I have the same thing happen to me mate, and tinnitus runs in my family, and as was said a couple of posts above, loud noises don't help (I'm also a drummer). You probably should get it checked out as it sounds like it is unfortunately!

    Go to the doctors.

A quick Google suggests you have bubonic plague - better to ask an expert than a forum of nerds
