Same here. I think I've grown custom to going sleep around about 12-2 am depending on what I'm doing and then getting up at 7-7.30 in the morning's for work and that.

The issue now is that I'm even waking up super early at the weekends as well and end up getting up at 7-8 am on a weekend.

I suppose this ability will come in handy for the night feeds and stuff when the little one appears.

All I need to do now is stop sleeping with my eyes open as they're pretty dry first thing in the morning.

So can you have too much sleep or is my body just complaining at my breaking routine?
I'd say yes, when sleeping too much, ie till 10-11am then when I wake up I just feel groggy and it takes a while to get back to normal. However when I go to bed and wake up early it just feels much much better. By early I mean like 6AM to wake up, having gone to bed at 11 or 12.

Today's an example, I woke up at 7 (feeling all normal) and just decided to stay in bed more, then I woke up again at 9 and I was (still am) feeling ****.

    Re: Sleeping..

It is possible to have too much sleep. If you are sleeping for 25 hours a day, that's too much.

That sounds like a really interesting bit of info! If you could find it that'd be great, I certainly need a good way of waking up feeling good. Had a terrible headache when I got up this morning

    Re: Sleeping..

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/humanbody/sleep/articles/whatissleep.shtml

You sleep in cycles - REM (rapid eye movement - when you dream), and other periods of varying light and deep sleep. You need all the periods of sleep, but you'll be able to get up much easier if you're awakened during your light sleep phase.

This is why some people can sleep for longer but still feel like crap when they wake up. They probs got woken up in a deeper sleeping phase when their brain is least active, so it takes them a while to adjust.

I'm sure I read about an alarm clock that monitors your brain activity and wakes you up during your light sleep phase - I'll try and find it!

    - While searching for the above I came across this: http://www.boingboing.net/2005/10/25...n-alarm-f.html

    Re: Sleeping..

Every 4, 8 and 12 hours seems to be good. At least for me and a bunch of other people I know. Any hours between that and its really hard to get up and I feel sleepy.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I always thought it was 4hr cycles, I suppose 45mins makes more sense though

    Re: Sleeping..

I also feel terrible if I seriously over-sleep and can get very bad headaches......not sure if the headaches are a result of over-sleeping or my body dehydrating while over-sleeping.

I also find that the longer I sleep, the more prone to nightmares I become.....a long over-sleep normally results in me waking from one.

I know a few people who like to sleep for 10-12 hours at a time, others that sleep for 4....personally I like around 7, although normally only get 4-6h on weekdays

    Re: Sleeping..

I sleep far too much, I naturally fall asleep at about 2am and wake up at about half 2 in the afternoon, I really need to cut it down somehow as that pattern doesn't work well with university lectures!
