Wanted to be a writer when I was younger, bit boring I suppose compared to the fighter pilots and F1 drivers most 11 year olds dreamt of being, just always appealed to me, to be fair even as an adult now I'd have to put music or games journalism very high in my list of dream jobs.
I used to want to be an astronaut when I was young but that idea went firmly out the window when I saw the amount of work involved.
So... off I went to do Biology, Chemistry and Maths A levels as I wanted to go and jump into the biotechnology industry but after 2 years that sort of lost all it's glamour and the fact that my cousin who has many a qualification in biotechnology couldn't really get a decent job sort of made my mind up as well as he was stuck in a job counting sperm cells in samples for a long time.
I ended up going back and doing IT courses in college and university and never looked back really
I still one day want to go into space though....
I wanted to be an university lecturer, spent a year and a half trying to find a PhD in ecology that actually had some funding... in the end I gave up and did a Masters and became an Environmental consultant, which is pretty cool I get to do some really nice work in some beautiful (and not so beautiful Ebbw Vale steel works yuck!) places.
Now I'm thinking about getting a few IT qualifications, mostly programming, because I'd like to develop some tools useful to my profession. I'm interested in env modelling to but the company I work for at the mo don't really do it.
Bottom line is I enjoy my job (most of the time), think I made the right choices.

Policeman (back in the days before Political Correctness changed it to 'Police Officer' )What was it?
IT ManagerWhat job do you have know?
As I got older I realised it wasn't for me for the following reasons...Why didn't you get your dream job?
# People were showing less respect to the Police.
# The chances of it being a rewarding job were slim (e.g. spend the early part of your career dealing with drunks and idiots).
# I realised that the only friends a Policeman had were other Policemen, mention your job at a party full of teenagers/twentysomethings and watch the room clear
... looking back I think I'd have liked to get in to IT earlier, or possibly looked at becoming an officer in the Army.
Mine was to be a F14 tomcat pilot...LOL! Uh...by the time I was 17+ the cockpit was a bit too small for me
Current status: unemployed / 'poor' student
I want to be a doctor and am currently doing my AS levels.
Not a clue
Wanted to be an astronaut for a while, then lost interest a bit - especially since NASA are rather picky about foreigners.
So, flash forward 10 years and i'm doing a Physics degree, so the astronaut thing is still a possibility with ESA, but i doubt it'll happen!
Thought vaguely about making stupid money in finance (econophysics for the win!), but with the current outlook that doesn't look like a good plan either.
Pilot is looking hopeful - i'm doing Gliding at uni because it's cheap, so, foot on the ladder and all that!
I wanted to be a pilot in the RAF, but I was diagnosed colourblind, so that was the end of that. I flew chipmunks and bulldogs in the cadets, and got to fly in Hercules, Gazelles, gliders and whatnots, so I guess I can't complain. It's just as well, I was a little crapbag who wanted to bomb and blow stuff up . . . it took me a few years to realise (well, Gulf War I) that it actually wasn't that cool and I'd rather leave the button pressing to someone else while I sleep comfortable in my own home.
Wanted to be an F1 driver, but there was no way I was going to get financed from scratch. I didn't get into a go-kart till I could afford it myself!
Nowadays, I'm looking to be an interaction designer, or work in user experience, or work with architects in responsive environments. . . eventually when I actually make up my mind!
Sportwise, I'd want to be the best badminton player. Wouldn't be too famous and it's not in the slightest bit glam.
I only know one person who's in their dream job - most people are fine with their jobs only because of the time off they get / holiday / pay / whatever. As I don't have to support a family, I'm quite happy earning not so much to do something I want to do.
Binman
I have strange goals lol
2 jobs
Job 1 would be to work at a place where they look for ways to increase lifespan and look towards finding ways for people to live forever.
Job 2 is to find ways of coming up with a system that ends poverty and looks towards progressing as a technologically advanced race that's aim is to find new ways of having fun. Like building ships that can reach other star systems and galaxies.
I'm thinking maybe if i start with help desk i can get my foot in the door.
I want to be part of a successful band All I need, is a guitarist, a singer (I could maybe double that), a drummer and a songwriter, and for all the aforementioned to have talent at the same level of mine (medium-high) and I'd be away!
Failing that, a policeman officer would've been cool, although I know I'd fail the physical.
Ditto for RAF, although I went off of that early when my ATC Squadron went sour.
Lastly, a comedy actor, preferably one where I make a right tit of meself
My dream job was to be a Nurse when I was younger... I never had the confidence to go do the training though.
Now I work in Early Years sector of Education, I have two jobs, the one is a Creche Leader for Childrens Centre Services ( formally Surestart ) and the second job is in a Pre-School as a leader and After School Club Manager... I love my job (s) as they are demanding and challenging and it never gets stale as there is always oppurtunities for personal development. Over ten years I can state that I have worked witth Children from birth to 12, and when the EYFS was implented in September I did training to work with 12-16 year olds. Just about to start my SENCO training And have recently started thinking about Social Work, seems a natural progression from what i'm doing now. This is why I took on the Surestart job because being a government agency it's a gateway to these proffessions.
Its hard one, something that pays ridiculous amount of money for little work. Does such a job exist? A year ago I would have gone for banker
