But this was the first job that offered him further opportunities. As he also sayed. The others would have made him no better of than OCUK. Novatech offered him future prospects. Why leave a secure job (at the time) for one that offers you no more than you already off. Maybe even less?
Hitmen are overated. I'll better their deal.

right.. i'm not wanting to get into an argument here, namely Neonplanet, i have no beef with you at all.. so i see no reason for us to discuss why he did or didn't leave OcUK, but if he was offered a different job away from HELL then why wouldn't he take it?
just my 2 cents on it, merely stating i'm not buying his whole sob story over him losing his original pay.
Yo Gibbo
Please remove Novatech from Sig, and that sig's quite .. explicit and a bit big. Pls sort. Cheers

Sometimes its hard to break the emotional bond you have with a place and pluck the courage up to take up a new and uncertain adventure.
Gibbo got messed about by his employer --- Not for us to prey into the details !! and that has acted as the catalyst for change.
And now he is on a new adventure and can venture out back into the forum community.
Its a brave decision but one that follows his passion and allows him to do what he does best and also allows better choice for us on where to source our computer bits and bobs.
Hi m8
OcUK is not 100% bad m8, if every single customer got treated badly they'd have gone out of business years ago, as with everything there is good with the bad. I was hoping things at OcUK were gonna change hugely for the better, its something I can't really speak about but when Rupert came on as MD there was big chances of things going somewhere and customer service improving greatly was one of those. But things changed Rupert left or was fired and the chances of something big disapeared and this was rather recent, I am not going to go into detail about it because its OcUK's business.
As to me wanting to leave well no, because it is in fact at times a great place to work because of the guys you work with, yes it can also be hell at times too but as I already said no job is 110% all good, you get both good and bad moments, but on the whole working at OcUK was a good job.
I have not said on here I am going to make Novatech great, what I have said they are already great and if I can try and help to improve and tweak things further then I shall do and thats my intention, they are already larger than OcUK and growing fast and its a company I want to be part of because yes their customer service side of things is better than OcUK.
I moved away from OcUK because my pay was messed around and I believe my career their could not progress much further.
You ask why I did not accept previous jobs, well they were not really me, more sales type positions and on the road plus the fact when I got these offers I was happy with OcUK due to reasons above, but as with anything things can change and can change quick.
Novatech found out what happened to me and well we got in touch, the package they offered me has ticked the right boxes and its a new challenge for me and I hope to tweak and improve what is already a great company.
Thanks for your wishes in the new job m8, its appreciated.

Could do without Miss Giovanni's knockers popping up on my screen at work while taking a peek at the forums, tone it down a bit eh?

I would have thought you'd have more business nuance about you Gibbo given you've been doing that job for years now. Spie cuts your pay by 25%, you get a better offer elsewhere, he agrees to reinstate your pay and you accept that? Any sensible person in any business would never take the counter offer. It's a given that the moment you do they're going to be looking for your replacement. If he genuinely believed you were worth it he'd never have cut your pay to begin with.
You must feel somewhat foolish now though, standing by his side all these years, defending him, etc only for him to do this? You remain loyal to someone and he returns the favour by cutting your wages, messing you about, reneging on a deal and ultimately banning you from the forum when you choose to go elsewhere. The mistake you made was seeing him as a friend rather than what he actually was, your boss. If he was a true friend then he would have spoke to you about your wages beforehand and would have been understanding in why you would choose to leave. I think his actions regarding all of this show exactly what sort of person Spie is. That he banned you from the OcUK community shows how annoyed he is you would defy him. He probably knows you're worth what Novatech are paying you but is so tight fisted and egotistical thinks he should be able to pay you whatever he likes and for you to decide otherwise is completely and utterly unacceptable to him.
Whilst he's making underhand wage cuts, what was he doing to try to reduce costs without affecting the employees of the company? Does he still have his boat? His tacky gold Daytona? His flash cars and motorbike? His big house? Has he sacrificed his flash lifestyle in order to make sure his staff remain happy? Or is he sacrificing their happiness to maintain his lifestyle?
A lot of us have been saying it for years, but the guy has serious, deeply rooted problems.
The OcUK forums are rather odd like this. It's like secret policemen come in the night and take people away. Sometime later the locals I wonder why so-and-so has been quiet then the truth dawns..
Best of luck with the future Gibbo
Ah yes OcUK and AXIAs, mine is still merrily running away in my Parent's basement!
But what you say there applies to a large percentage of prosperous or successful business people. I wonder if the senior executives of large banks have considered giving back their seven (or eight) figure bonuses now that the companies they've been supposed to be running are in the poop because of the way they've been running them? Like hell they have. With an notable exception or two, they've not had the good grace to do so much as stick their noses out in public and even acknowledge they made mistakes, let alone say sorry or, heaven's forfend, consider that exorbitant bonuses might not be entirely an apt reward for running your company into the ground, wrecking sound businesses, costing thousands their jobs and perhaps their homes. Just so long as they've got theirs, they're happy.
At least Spie built the company up. He is, after all, the reason why employees there have jobs at all.
I have no reason to like the man, and we've had our disagreements. I've never been banned from OcUK, but I wasn't happy with the way I was treated. I'm sure Spie sees it differently. But despite our differences, if he's built a company up to the point where it buys a nice house, an M5 and Hayabusa (or whatever he has now), why should he give them up? He's an employer, not a charity. Except for the few saints among us, we all act in our own best interests. Those that are employees aren't likely to turn round and offer to halve their pay just because a company is in trouble. It's a bi-directional deal - employee provides work, employer provides salary. Both parties expect to benefit from it or they wouldn't do it.
I do the same. I work for myself. Most jobs I do if and only if I want to. Money is a large factor in that. There's some jobs I do because I want to (including admin work here), not because I'm paid for it, there's some jobs I do at much less than market rate because I have other reasons to do them, and there are jobs I wouldn't do regardless of the pay level (within the grounds of common sense). Among that latter category are working for Spie, but I suspect that's pretty academic, because I suspect his chances of offering me work are about the same as my chances of taking it if he did - zero.
But even where I do work for free (like here) or at below market rates, it's because (for reasons other than money) it suits me to do so. In other words, I'm still getting what I want out of it, even if it's only the sense of satisfaction from having helped someone that charity volunteers get. We are all, essentially, selfish creatures that act for our own reasons, even if that reason is the sense of well-being derived from helping others. Spie not giving up a big house or flash car is no different from anyone else not selling their home to help the company they work for, or from filling their home to the rafters with the homeless.
Saracen, I think it says a hell of a lot when someone can just crap on a long standing employee the way Spie has to Gibbo.
Gibbo's stood by Spie for years and I presume Gibbo has always thought there was something 'more' than just business. ie, that they were close friends, etc. As he says, he wanted to stay out of loyalty. It's clear that spie obviosly didn't feel that loyalty towards Gibbo. When you've worked with someone for a number of years and built up that sort of bond, the last thing you'd expect is to have your wage slashed by 25% with no warning whatsoever. Then to be messed about the way he was? I think it speaks volumes about spie as a person.
I also notice he made Phil and Dave MD's, if I was those two I'd be rather wary. If Gibbo who worked there for god knows how many years and was supposed to be one of the most respected members of staff can be treated like that then I'd start to question Spies motives for making me an MD.
