Having been on-line for a while now and having borne witness to that known as 'text messaging', I'm tempted to form a challenge of your appraisal regarding an ability to talk and use a keyboard! I don't know about the third point (eep!), but can well believe that there are many people - 'gamers' - that haven't heard of Cannon Fodder. Games have been going for a year or two and so as much as it feels odd, it's hardly surprising. However, it is admittedly a little unsettling when it takes tens of forum posts before anyone mentions something that wasn't made in the latter half of the 16-bit era! Oh well, I accept my fate*...
[*Age!]
As for computers in schools, what is this witchcraft of which thou dost speak?! Archimedes? Back in my day - after we'd been t't mill - it were all about a principle. Out wi't bath water! Course, it were all theory. Aye, we didn't have baths in those days. Or water. Ah, such aspirations...
Ahem.
Of the schools that did eventually get 'Magic Boxes', there was something called a Commodore PET, later followed by the equally mystical and otherworldly 'BBC'.
Now what was that Tennis simulator called? You'll know the one - just like the real thing...
It were...
Erm...
Pong!
Are there any decent emulators for some of these games, surely they're freeware by now?!
Some have been said but...
Cannon Fodder - ruled my world for quite some time! The song was also fab!
Impossible Mission - stay a while..stay FOREVER!!! http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=0aNdv0-gsHU
Elite - got stuck very early on & never played it again
Dizzy - Oh how I love that egg.
Turrican - Cracking game.
Desert Strike
Commando - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=hDAhixO2t5w Loved it!
Sigh, the good old days
EDIT: Just found this, mint! 100 C64 games in 10mins http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=eY2gK1MPgh8
Games I've remembered since watching this vid..

Midnight Resistance

I had that on PS1, quality game.
there is an open source theme hospital movement, but in contrast to the wonderful things openTTD are doing it seems to be caaarp

it always used to frustrate me in Theme Park that you couldn't ride the actual roller coaster you had built. I remember trying to tell a friend that one day a newer version of Theme Park would be able to do that. He was having none of it. Didn't believe PCs would get that powerful for realtime 3D animation like that
well I sure you couldn't. it just played the same piece of video no matter how you built your roller coaster.
wouldn't be the first time I was wrong though
