Haha, only used when in the certain manner - I wouldn't worry about saying the word coconut and getting dirty looks in general!

Also @ transylvanic, money from the council goes to everything, not JUST 'ethnic projects' lol... I wouldn't be worried about it. They're positive things for the community and it wouldn't be done if the community as a whole didn't benefit from it.

Hmm strange one this, I can understand why it might be seen as offensive, but not sure about racist.

A term I've used maybe in the past, referring to others (friends).

The word, as I know it and generally have always assumed means: someone of ethnic origin (coloured skin), who knows nothing about their own culture, or distances themselves from it...and acts or comes across as "white" - what ever "white" maybe, just nothing like what you would assume them to act like, or would assume they would know about. That's the best I can explain it, more offensive than racist.

It's just a lot of stereotyping.
