Looking at this pic you posted,
Can't help thinking that this Hirsch strap might go well with it,
Notice the deployant clasp? That's a third-party clasp as well, didn't cost the earth and are of really good quality too. Give me a shout if you'd like the details on that as well

Yes I am unsure about the strap. Brown or Black? Brown seems to go with gold - but black picks out the black dials.

Not easy as they both tend to come with white stitching; never seen a brown strap with black stitching (or vice versa). Go with black for formal and brown for casual?

Yes - I am not really fond of the white stitching on either black or brown. Black with white stitching works really well on the one posted above due to the black face with white dials - not so sure about on mine with its silver face and black dials?
I think I might just buy a brown and a black Hirsch as you say. The straps look very good value.

I just went through my old emails and found this about the deployant,
18mm HADLEY ROMA S/S PUSH BUTTON DEPLOYMENT BUCKLE
The 18 mm width is what I got to go with the Hirsch straps, which have a lug width of 20 mm, and it tapers down to 18 mm at the buckle end.
Got them off ebay ages ago; just make sure you go with a proper watch accessories store with a rating of > 3000 and you'll get the real deal. I paid USD 21.- per buckle back in April 2007.

Well - I had a good think about it and decided to get the Breitling done up for my dads birthday instead of keeping it for myself. He only gave it to me because I got over exited and hasled him, sometimes I can be too persuasive for my own good.
He'll give it to me when he's good and ready. It will be great to see him wear it again.
So I still had to buy one for me. I've been pouring over the Tissot range since mike suggested them. I wanted more of a dress watch for work. I had my eye on one model in particular, but I wanted to see it in real life before buying online (it was £40 cheaper online).
After holding it, admiring it, and trying it on, I bought it there and then!
When the moment came I figured it better to buy from an official dealer than to buy from a random website. Just incase.
Tissol Le Local:
I love it. Its built beautifully, looks great on the wrist, and if you take it off, the back case is stunning. I comes in a beatiful box with lots of literature, including a book about the history of
Tissot which looks really intersting. Overall, I am VERY happy with it. I am willing to wager this will not be the last Tissot I buy!
Cheers Mike for suggesting Tissot - and cheers everyone else for your advice.

First of all, that's really great of you and I am very sure your dad would be thrilled! Please do post some photos once it is restored.
Congrats, that is very nice and that caseback is nicely done! I like the little bits of flourishes engraved on the back. I am sure you will be very happy with your Tissot.
All the best
Mike.
Just thought I'd update things as well. I purchased 2 watches yesterday one was the Tissot PRC200 which I linked to earlier:
These aren't my photos
And then as I had £30 of Amazon vouchers to spend I thought I'd get this Seiko as it was reduced to £96 anyway, so cost me £66 which I think is great for a decent, everyday watch.
Can't wait for them to turn up and this should tide me over till I can afford the Ebel 1911 BTR I've been hankering after.
Well it was via Amazon through one of their resellers , The Watch Hut, who I made sure are authorised Tissot dealers and seemed to have the best returns policy amoungst Amazon resellers. They also have an actual real world shop which I kind of think is important and they've been around along time to.
I picked the watches up this morning and I have to say I'm really impressed with both of them. Especially the Seiko considering the price I paid.
Re the bracelet v. strap thing, I will probably change the leather one on the Tissot to a brown chunky one as thats my preference. However I'm intrigued by your comment Mike regarding the necessity of a braclet. Is that becasue of the heat and it then causes an irritation rash if you use a leather strap? If so does a bracelet stop this as I now suffer this with virtually all my watches (never used to) and would use a bracelet if it would stop this. Or is because the strap would disintegrate quite rapidly due to heat & humidity?
Regards
J
Well for one, the underside of the strap absorbs sweat and then it not only gets rather uncomfortable over time but not to mention possible odours in the long term It depends entirely on the person I guess; how much you sweat, the humidity of the climate. If you spend most of your days in an ACed office though it shouldn't be a problem.
Straps should not disintegrate if they are of quality leather, and tend to last at least a year. You can also help reduce the creasing and wear of a standard buckle by fitting on a deployant and you would find it is far easier to take of, and put back on. Here's an example,
