What's the *single* best book you've ever read? I'm looking for a new read and this might give me some inspiration.
For me - probably Birdsong by Sebastian Faulks.

Very tough question without breaking it down into genres, I could certainly give you my favourites for each genre, but best book ever?
I need some time to think about this, will update later.
The Miracle Strain - Michael Cordy
Was so engrossed by it that I sat and read it cover to cover in a day
I loved them too; have you read the Raymond Fiest riftwar series? I would highly recommend them to fantasy lovers.

Going by your avatar I would recommend decisive battlesfields of the western world by J.F.C. Fuller; go for the abridged version and its a history of europe based around battles. The unfortunately was a friend of Oswald and the fuhrer though so keep in mind some of his views may be a bit slanted.
Les Miserables (abridged) although I can't think of much at the moment.

Five go to Mystery Moor.
That is a series of books Josh and so not the single best book that Ghee specified.Originally Posted by Josh
The best book I've read recently is still Shock Doctrine by Naomi Klein, really eye opening stuff tbh
Night Watch by Terry Pratchett, to me it refines the very best of the Discworld series.

This is bunny and friends. He is fed up waiting for everyone to help him out, and decided to help himself instead!
Personally I felt the second trilogy was better "Legends" but I always like Raistlin.
As for my choice thats a tough one, but if pressed I'd have to go for Altered Carbon by Richard Morgan. How many main protagonists couyld you say this of...
"Takeshi Kovacs has to be the worst friend you can have. Everyone who's affiliated with him eventually ends up slaughtered. His enemies die in smaller numbers than his buddies and allies. If you had a choice, you'd be wise to get on his bad side."
If Wisdom is the coordination of "knowledge and experience" and its deliberate use to improve well being then how come "Ignorance is bliss"
I can't say fav book of all time but best book I read last year was by far "Persian Fire" by Tom Holland. Really engrossing story and brilliantly told, i found it much better than "Rubicon" his first book.
