I don't know anyone that got stuck but even if someone did I wouldn't believe them unless it actually happened to me
Negative, and the same for the 10 or so I've seen report back on facebook so far.
Didn't work on me, even though I was really up for it working and even felt myself getting "heavier" at the contact points of the chair. Don't know anyone it worked on either.
Just a bit of tech though, when he said "it won't work if someone records it and posts it on the internet"...is that true?
I wasn't stuck but I had a psychology class at college where we got a hypnotist in and I had my eyes 'glued' shut in a similar way, so I know what it feels like. I kind of knew while it was happening that I could force them open if I tried a bit harder but I didn't want to - the social expectation was that they would stay shut. The silly film and the stuff Derren Brown says is just designed to put you in a state of mind where you are more likely to follow those expectations.
Imagine being in that room on TV and suppose you hesitated about standing up because it was kind of half working and you weren't sure if you should. All of a sudden some people are stood up, some still sitting, and no-one really moving now. It's going to look a bit weird and awkward if you stand up now. Why not just go along with it.
I think you would have to be pretty susceptible for it to work through your TV though.
Nope, epic fail from Brown.
Update: 2 people I know got stuck. Still, pretty low odds of it actually working.
No, and I was very disappointed I can tell you.
I just felt heavy.
I like the way he said it won't work on most people, whats the point then
No-ones mentioned the two images that flashed on the screen for a fraction of a second. I reversed it on my toppy and it looked like an old sketch of someone bound to a chair with rope.
I don't see how watching it on YouTube would change the results at all, i suspect it's just a safety net to the barrage of abuse that'll follow when it doesn't work
My mum watched it and it didn't work on her as far as i know.
I saw that image that flashed on the screen just for a sec too, figured that was part of it.
Anyway, after the film finish, I promptly stood up and told my Dad that it didn't work
"If you're not on the edge, you're taking up too much room!"
- me, 2005
It didn't work for me, but it did for my girlfriend.
She got stuck for an hour as well as we were watching on Sky+, rewound it to get to the video again to see if it could work for me (she'd been stuck and unstuck already) and she got stuck again more than before...and basically her brother dropped the remote which changed the channel and lost the recording...so we had to wait another 45 minutes for the 'release noise' to come back on which unstuck her.
She kept her cool pretty well, as she was well and truly stuck. I had to lift her off the chair half way through to try and get her walking and she felt literally 10 times heavier than she ever had done before. Then as the 'release noise' came on (on C4+1), she could move totally freely again.
It was weird.
It didn't work for me though, and I was pretty annoyed.
