Id be furious, I 100% understand how you feel about the document, especially as I took our daughter's in to set up her first savings account. I remember how careful i was with it and even got an understanding response from the bank clerk when i showed it to her before letting her take it off to sort out.
Good luck with the banks mate!
It's just a piece of paper...
Actually worse than that. It's a piece of paper that the government forces you to get in order to let your relationship qualify for some legal issues. Your relationship surely doesn't rely on government sanction to exist.

Who the hell uses a feeder, lift up the top of the photocopier and place it directly on glass. At work I'm always handling senstive/important documents, and I never use the feeder. I just do not want to risk it. What a muppet.
I would have gone nuts TBH. If I were you I'd be pressing them for compensation, enough for a really nice meal for the two of you on top of the replacement, call it an anniversary meal, and if they don't go for that then sell your story to your local rag who'd love to cover a human interest story like that. What with you being recently married and all
Can't remember for what reason but I once got six bottles of wine as an apology from my bank for something or other, really they couldn't have done anything anywhere near as bad as what happened to you as I can't remember ever having cause to complain about anything and certainly have never kicked up a fuss with them. They probably just double-booked an appointment or something. It was pretty good wine too, not cheap.

On the other, I have no idea where my marriage certificate is, and I can't remember who our witnesses were. I do remember that our wedding was a fantastic day, and I'm still married to my lovely wife 6 years down the line. It's only a bit of paper. It could have been worse, you could have lost it when your house burned down or something....
