    Re: Applying for University 2010

From what I saw the average price living in the halls was around £80 a week. The very cheapest one being £70 a week, most expensive is £105 a week. I thought this was pretty expensive to be honest? I think I will get quite a big student loan since me and my 2 sisters will all be at uni in 2010.

Really haven't looked into the halls that much, wish I had to be honest since I'm probably too late.

Edit: Looking at the website, applying for 2010 begins in February. Will definitely mull it over.

Yup, pretty much far too expensive for me even in the cheapest place and sharing a room. Even using all my student loan on accommodation and working part time, I'd have like £20 left a week for food and stuff. Sadly out of the question.

As a final year medic at Cardiff, I would highly recommend you DO NOT GO TO CARDIFF TO STUDY MEDICINE!

It's been an insanely disorganized course, with a number of huge errors, one of which you might have seen in the news over the summer. Cardiff's a great place, but really, I wouldn't recommend doing medicine here to anyone.

Very well done My friend got his offer from Cambridge for medicine earlier this week No idea what college he's going to, though...

EDIT: just seen Million's post... About the news over the summer, was that the one about a couple of people being given a pass in their final exam only for them to start practising medicine before anyone realised they actually failed the exam? I suppose the good thing is that Cardiff is lowish down on my priority list...

    Re: Applying for University 2010

Applied this year too, doing Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Economics A-Level. Predicted A*A*BA respectively.

I've applied for Actuarial Science at LSE and City and Maths + Stats at Imperial, Warwick and UCL.

Only got a conditional from City of AAA but to be honest their course there is really good so I'm just going to see how my other offers go. A bit of a risky move for me as my personal statement sucked big time due to being a lazy guy that does no extra curricular activities and all the courses require AAA (with the exception of Warwick which has in the past offered AAB for people who take Further Maths and might even be lower if I take STEP which I am)

Good luck to everyone else I guess!

    Re: Applying for University 2010

Only thing I'm worried about is what my conditions might be. The entry requirements are:

"ABBB or BBBBC including Maths and a science at B. Physics or Technological Studies recommended."

I have BBBBC, physics and tech at B. Only thing I don't have is Maths at B, but I'm resitting and predicated to get an A this year. I assumed that would be my condition, but during my interview the professor said that my conditional could include my Advanced Highers as well. My Advanced Highers are Graphics (or tech, same thing) and Computer, and I got a B for both at Higher. Worried about needing to meet conditions with those, if I need to get a B in AH Computing I'm screwed. Hopefully it will just be in the A in maths I will need.

Find out what your loan is. Figure out how much you can earn over the summer.

I don't want to encourage you to get in to debt, but I know i'm not alone in finding this, Halls where fricken awesome, and the best year of my life thus far.

It helps you understand living with people, making friends, learning to share friends (if you know what i mean) and just helping you become well adjusted.

If you've already got a lot of siblings at uni and parents earn little money check with the uni for grants/buseries if they aren't helpful on the swithcboard try asking for the Widening Participation dept. they will be able to give you all the info regarding whats available too you.

    Re: Applying for University 2010

Woohoo, got an offer from UCL through email for Maths+Stats. "More details to follow in due course"

    I'm guessing the requirement's gonna be A*AA.

Luckily they didn't interview me and just gave me an offer, would have flopped in an interview haha.
