    Re: Snow no, not again!

Most of my Saturday has been spent helping the Police keep a lump of the A21 (major dual carriageway road linking M25 and coast, motorway in all but name) open. When I say open we had to clear it first, after a bunch of cars and lorrys got stuck. Once we got the first couple of cars up the hill we spent the next couple of hours pushing BMWs, Audis, and Mercedes up there, bloody useless. I am not talking about clearing a dozen cars, there were a couple of hundred in the queue. Rough estimate, 80% of cars having serious trouble were either BMW or Mercedes. For some reason Jags and Jap RWDs didnt have the same problems as the Euro RWDs. Surprise star vehicle was a milkfloat that trundled across the flyover where nothing but 4x4s had gone. Luckily a lot of the 4x4 drivers had ropes and helped us out.

Scariest moment was seeing somebody almost run over by a snow plough, this girl was walking alongside the central crash barriers, wearing very lightweight clothes and footwear, luckily the snowplough driver spotted her at the last moment and avoided her, Police stopped the traffic and got her over to where we were waiting to push more BMWs. She thawed out in a police car and got picked up later.

I had to abandon my car last night and walk home, the snow was above my ankle and still rising. This morning It was 10 inches in the back yard.

    Re: Snow no, not again!

At least that was black ice with snow on top of it.

The majority of UK problem routes just have snow, but despite being told not to drive, people ignore the warnings, go out for that Christmas shopping or trying to get to some airport, get stuck, the gritters and snow ploughs can't get through... then they have the nerve to call radio stations and complain on the news that the road hasn't been treated.

Then there are the artic lorries... oh dear.

yep, British people have no clue how to drive in snow. The ammount of people i seen trying to get up the hill by my house is amazing. They take a run up, car slows down and starts wheel spinning, so they stick a gear up and rev it more.....that really is going to help

Family are stuck in Malta till atleast Wednesday, other half can't get down for Christmas, I'm running low on supplies (already out of food for my lizards) and can't travel (disability) starting to wish I never wanted more snow.

i can never understand why people like snow. yea you can have a bit of 5mins of fun building a snow man but the negetives far outweighs the positives.

    snow causes this:

    cant go to work.
    deliveries dont arrive
cant go anywhere and stranded at home
potentialy frozen messed up pipes resulting to no water supply.

    Yup snow is fantastic

i was typing in a hurry, and i missed the word "some", im sorry

i also tried to take british train to get back to swansea from york. 7 hours, nearly every single train i was on got cancelled far far from its destination, lucky for me i had mobile internets and could replan, but it still was a pain

The train service to Reading is going to be closed soon, not too bothered about driving in the snow, but my head gasket went the other day :-( so now maybe no work.

You haven't seen Irish people yet. Massive, massive pile up on a ramp to get onto the M50. 8/10 people spinning their wheels faster and faster and sliding more and more We had to go out and push 3 cars to get them out of the way so we could move through. Also it's not racism if it's true!

He's right. Absolutely spot on! British people cannot drive for toffee the second there's an inch of the white stuff on the ground.. Indivdually we're generally not that bad, but get a group of us together in some traffic and lord..

The number of people I've seen spinning their wheels at high revs in first gear just trying to get going, or bus drivers I've seen driving at less than walking pace, their stop start driving causing mile long halts along major bus routes goes beyond counting.

People on the continent don't expect to be able to tool round everywhere at this time of year without snow chains or proper winter tyres, we don't bother though.. we're too british for that.. we spin our wheels valiantly and shake our fists at 4x4 drivers as they pass. We are RUBBISH at snow, we just are.. we panic as a nation as soon as it appears, some stereotypes exist for a reason

Well i figured i would use the train as the roads would be a nightmare. I booked the train for today but EVERY possible route is messed up... im hoping they sort out the kings cross to Peterborough issues for tomorrow otherwise im gunna have to drive which will mean my return ticket (also an advance single) will be wasted money
