Article is misleading. They are talking about Google Profiles not Google+ profiles.

Engadget pointed out that if you don't want you social network profile available to everyone, then just use MySpace

You can lock you account down so that virtually everything is hidden, just like Facebook. Just your name and gender are mandatory.

It might pull people away from Facebook, because it is clean, uncluttered, fresh start etc. I like the circles implementation. It still needs some work, but then again, anyone remember what FB was like when it first came out?

Yup, it was great! Until they added apps, then it went downhill from there..

Google + is fun at the moment but I hate the layout - its like the new gmail (well, the new gmail is like +) which just doesn't work. Hopefully there will be an option for themes (may already be one?) so you can use a prettier layout that doesnt use white space instead of lines.
