What do you do for a living?

Now medically retired but have been in electronics all my life, built my first crystal set at age 8.....

Did apprenticeship at Decca making colour tellys, then a stint in metrology with LVDTs and systems for things like measuring the shape and size of aero engine blades. Did a stint in Saudi on first line at Dahran Airport sub conned to the Royal Saudi Airforce (those F14 were something else - esp when we were firing em up on the test bed !!).

Moved into Sales in 1984 and ended up selling metrology kit again adding load cells to my portfolio

Retired due to fibromyalgia in 2004. Now I just look after a few PCs for friends and family.

I'm a window cleaner/ entrepreneur/ author. A long time ago I thought about getting into IT but saw how badly treated the IT department was where I went on my uni work placement. Spent a looooooong looooooooooong time in financial administration having the tits bored off me before leaving to become a full time self employed window cleaner, a decision I've never regretted. I also now have time to write and keep an eye out for new business opportunities. It's great!

I work in marketing...film and media! Along with a lot of corporate photography.

Has had it's frustrating moments, but overall best job I've had. In the past year I calculated I've done about 60,000+ miles travel / 10 or so different countries (interviewing our customers for testimonials and what not, and building asset libraries)...in the past I never hardly got to travel and see so much!

Just need to develop it a bit more so I'm more in control of things.

Freelance graphic design and animation on and off for the past decade or so for local charities and schools with lots of sick/retirement cover in various positions.

In the 2011-2012 academic year teaching networking and general system support at my local college (BTEC level three, got them using virtualisation software as well as using Linux and Windows 7 and 8 not something that they would've had any opportunity with prior to me). Since October I've been teaching graphic design/composition principles, Photoshop, 3DS Max and general animation/Flash to BTEC level 3 students at a slightly less local college (sick leave cover) with a full time IT tech/demonstrator at the same college coming up (it might help that they've apparently had excellent feedback off the students so fingers crossed).

I'm a freelance surrealist, basically I take facts and engineer them into statements that bear no relation with reality but that make the other person happy.

Alternatively this is known as being a suport analyst, but I prefer the former title as a more accurate description of the job!

other than that, im a stooodent! studying Networking and Internet Technology (best move i made in a long time). I also use my rapier wit (see above) to abuse the poor fools who happen to get me when they were looking for tech support and probably expected some form of customer service

I work for a small server hosting company, dealing with all sorts like provisioning of new orders, support of Windows and Linux server operating systems, assistance with administration and backups of servers... and a lot more. That's why I like working for smaller companies, you're not pigeon-holed into one specific role.

you know, the usual long term unemployed lifestyle but without the actual claiming of any money. I know i could, i just dont want to, it didnt feel right in my head, signed off because i thought it would motivate me to get a job quicker instead of relying on money from all your taxes.

as a result of which, 2 months after that i volunteered at shopmobility - started on the desk hiring out scooters and things. moved into the workshop after we opened one, been there since 2007 ish.

as a result of which i can probably build a mobility scooter from a box of components in less than a day (just dont ask me how the joystick on a power chair, or the controller box, or how the battery technology works )

as a result of which, ive realised i actually like building and fixing things, so im currenty researching on how to progress in that field.
