My credit rating is so low, I can't pay with cash.

Only Capital One will give me a credit card, and they specialise in chav scummers.

no you don't. You just want a damn good scrubbing down with a direct debit mandate

    Other things to remember:

    - If you are turned down for credit, TRY not to re-apply for 6 months
    - Convert an "under 19's" account to a current account as soon as possible
    - Use a service like Experian's CreditExpert on the 30-day free trial to get a quick peek (for free) at your credit report.
    - Check for errors that might be on there (for example, my brother's name was tied to mine - which is wrong, as he is financially independant from me

The biggest rule, however, is NEVER EVER borrow/spend more than you can afford. I know this, because I've been there and done it. I ended up owing over £20K and ended up petitioning for my own bankruptcy in the end.

A lesson well learned, but it was learnt the hard way.

Been in the same position for the last few years mate, I did the worst thing you can possibly do...get a CCJ.

If there's one piece of advice that I could pass on that anyone even remotely listens to, it's DON'T let any of your debts get to County Court stage. Pay it off, sell your organs, sell your grandma, sell your body, whatever just get the money and pay that bill for christ's sake. Six years they last and within that six years you can get NOTHING, you are SCUM. No loans, no overdrafts, no current account, no credit cards, no mortgage, not even a sodding mobile phone contract....nada, zip.

Mine expires this July, it's been like a prison sentence. I'm nearly thirty and they only just gave me a current account again. Capital One have finally offered to up my limit from 200 quid.

Don't be a div with your debts.

Your credit history gets wiped after 6 years doesnt it ? so if you mess up and wait....then eventually you might be able to get good deals

I got 3 credit cards, two are empty and one is nearly full, I transfer my balance all the time, you should never refuse credit. It does nothing but build up your credit history file

I have no debts, I just have no credit rating either. I sort of don't exist financially. Strange.

Sorry to hear you got to the CCJs stage, still at the end of the day, you can always be in an Ocean Finance advert.
