coke cans, sticks, card....... anything at all! I used to love doing that because I thought it sounded so cool. I stopped after the coke can burst my tyre though, a very expensive mistake (expensive for me at the time)

Good post. Remember getting a kick up the bum for being naughty?, the old mans leather belt/razor strop? Didn't harm us in the long term did it? Sure there were those who went overboard, thats life. Too many namby pamby tree hugging hairy arm pitted do gooders around today, society is going to hell in a handbag because of this I believe. Kids of today have a different perspective, along the lines of "...... you can't touch me it's against the law" and I think this is the root of all the problems.

    mmmmmm starting to rant lol

I was born in 1980 and pretty much everything's the same. Fair enough you couldn't press 1471 to see who last rang your house and there was no channel 5, but really, it wasn't a time of simple pleasures and word games in front of the fire.

You couldn't leave you door unlocked when you went out, coppers could not give you a clout around the ear, and neighbours were already taking each other to court over the height of a hedge.

The Young Ones were young and you didn't watch it on UK Gold and Question of Sport had ugly team captains. Thats all that was different.

Personally, I'm glad I spent the early 80s in nappies and the mid and late 80s at school and growing up, as it was well ****e. Mobile phones were the size of Cherie Blairs custom built mouth organ, and everyone was dancing around like rubbishrubbishrubbishrubbishrubbish to crap music in a crap thin, silver suit, with a crap hairstyle.

Horrible decade, and one best avoided or at least left to pass by, whilst you try to keep your gripe water down.

Young people - you missed nothing. Trust me, I was there.

woo I just make it at 1985 .. I'm thinking the majority of students at uni were born before 86' though.. seen as I'm only just in the second year (late august )..
plus loads of people at uni take gap years/come from other courses.

We cannot choose what we are.. but what are we but the sum of our choices?

Vaul, how can you say that 80's music is carp? I will always chose my 80's music collection over any of my more recent stuff if I had to make the choice. Also, we were able to leave our door unlocked when we went out My mum left the back door wide open and would go to the local shops (5 mins walk away but could be away for up to an hour) and we were never burgled.

Thanks for that David, made me very nostalgic for my childhood and quite sad that my children won't experience most of the stuff we got up to

Yes to everything apart from the ''You need to sleep more, usually until the afternoon, after a night out'' - I spend less time in bed now than I ever have!!
I have completely lost the ability to 'sleep in', I just wake up, get up, hangover/no hangover/long week at work/holiday... is their something wrong with me???

But I'm still 27 going on 40 IMO! Always moaning!!

The worst example of destroying heritage I have seen recently is the new Raleigh Chopper. No more gear shifter placed to impale your nads in a crash. Bah.
