why are they called bands, surely 4 or more people who want to sing without any instruments are a choir!?

U2 however despite the selling out over recent years did make one of the best albums of all time despite it not being my favourite style of music I can appreciate good stuff when I hear it and the Joshua Tree is the greatest thing they ever put out tbh

The deterioration in pop music has been evident for a while now.......

In the sixties we had the beatles, hendrix, the who

In the seventies there were led zepplin, ac/dc, iron maiden, aerosmith

Even the eighties, the decade that taste forgot gave us guns and roses, bon jovi and metallica

The nineties are when the boy bands start to emerge and the only to decent bands I can think of right now starting up then are blur and oasis

Then we move into the new millenium and what have we got? 50 cent telling me how many times he's been shot, three of a kind telling me about someone called babycakes, coldplay making me wish i was deader than jackets with little leather elbow patches.

Its not fair I tell thee!

Thats probably the best summarisation of music in the past 30 years I've heard for a long time, and really does highlight what a sad depressing state music is in these days. Its because of the all time low standard of music that (at best) mediocre bands like Coldplay have been able to flourish, lets face it people - whats the alternative ?

I like coldplay. Not too sure about the newer stuff but I like parachutes and rush of blood to the head.

And when they played Yellow and Dont Panic last night, I really, really wanted to be there.

So you're not a fan of 'pop'ular music then? Saying that, music at the moment is brilliant if you ignore the stuff they want you to hear.

yes coldplay are depressing but please dont insult those jackets!

to me that first single the released was good 'you spun a web for me'

but they seem to just be repeating the bass line in alot of there new stuff (or something makes it sound just like a previous song)

    oh scientist i liked

i personally think u2 are overrated my friend however tells me they are great live so i cant really talk

glastonbury looked great on the tv though, think i might have to go sometime....

I bloody hate U2 but Coldplay are really good and Radiohead are on another level, you would understand if any of you have seen them live.

I too was in the house on Saturday bored senseless and flicked on BBCi only to see coldplay were on singing clocks and a few other songs. Is it me or are they all the same style of "piano" with the chords rearranged ?

99% of the Glastonbury line up was utter toss, sorry but its true. I agree with the U2 and Coldplay comments to Same old drone on music.

And Knox I am shocked that in the 70's era you make no mention of Sabbath and Judas Priest, true pioneers of the rock and metal scenes

Yeah, and while we're picking holes, Maiden's first album came out in 1980.

1980 for their first album but they were signed in 1978 so we should say a 70/80 band then
