You are all mean sons of bitches! I have a pretty big fear of large spiders, but I'd never hurt one on purpose!

    No, it's not.

The one on the bottom attacked (and is clamped to) the one on the top, wich is being held by it's fore limbs by a soldier so they can take a picture of it.

In generall the bigger the spider is, the less it bothers me. Small arthropods annoy me cause I can't see any of them with my glasses off.

I have no problem with spiders or any insects besides flies and mosquitos that stay out of the first and second floors of my house. I do not tolerate them in my living/sleeping space though. Those get smashed or vacuumed up. In my basement, or outside, I won't bother them unless they make the mistake of touching me first.

The whole Iraq spider thing is a bit of a myth, they are not that big (they look big due to the way the photo is taken). They are also nothing new, they are not poisonous nor are they dangerous. They also don’t scream when the run etc. You can imagine the Vets telling the freshly shipped in newbie’s about them and exaggerating a little!

As for killing spiders, it isn't necessary; they could easily be caught and placed in the garden. Anyone who kills them is stupidly cruel!

With the original pic you can see the soldier's hand and sleeve, yup, it's large compared to what we normally get, but not anywhere near as big as it's made out

    I wish i could spider-proof my house

I don't mind the spiders themselves but not indoors! Especially the fast and large ones

Hoovered up the biggest one i've ever seen yesterday, left the hoover out, went to tesco, when i gto back i sat down to watch some TV and SAW IT CRAWL OUT OF THE HOOVER HOSE, i even made sure to keep the hoover going for an extra 2 minutes and picked up any bits of crap left in the floor in the hope that it'll help kill it and it still got out!

In the end I just hit it with an argos catalogue, very fast and hard to capture so i had no choice.

I don't capture spiders as they are smart and come back if i throw them out, unlike flies and moths that usually go and find something else to do.

I can't relax if theres a spider in the same room as me, whereas flies don't bother me

Waste of time and effort. It takes a few seconds to kill one and toss it in the trash or wash my hand off (in the event I smashed it with my fist). It could take several minutes to find a suitable container to hold one, then catch it and take it outside.

There are plenty of spiders/flies/mosquitos/humans and smashing a few hundred a year won't change that.

But flies i really don't care about , they are usually trying to get out of wherever they are and they tend not to mess around with me. Plus they are stupid so you know they're not up to anything.

I just think it's wrong, yes I'm aware it takes time to catch them and there are plenty more out there. But as an animal lover I try my hardest not to hurt anything. The world has enough cruel people who treat animals and other nature as just another resource to make money out of or to kill for the sake of it. Hence the mess the worlds in, so I'd rather not become one of those people. Yes I know that killing a spider is hardly going to lead to the decline of the world’s animals/environment and so on, but there is no need when with a little bit of effort they can be moved safely. Every creature does its part remember, spiders help keep the fly population down for starters.

Ah, the sand spider pic. The wonders of perspective

Take a look at the size in reference to the guys sleeve rather than looking at the legs behind, they're not that big (and not spiders either).

I hate spiders. I have normal sized spiders in my house (about 30mm) that look very similar to the ones in the original article. The thing is, about once every two weeks, I wake up with a welt on one of my arms or legs. Those damn things bite me from time to time. There is nothing more annoying than that. The next time I see one of them, it is going to be spidey paste.
