"Women make the safer drivers" yes but there are the odd daft bints who drive away from petrol stations without having removed the pump from their car first...

I really dont know who they are trying to appeal to with the advert, the first I heard of it was when my sister asked me if I had seen the really stupid advert with women in a classic american car and then proceeded to ask me if it was a joke.
The way I see it
a) No-one will take the company seriously (bit of a problem for insurance)
b)Makes people want to smash things up in frustration (as mentioned above), lol
Yeah, at first I thought it was a joke, until it started giving phone numbers and stuff out.Originally Posted by mattyp

But yes, it's BLOODY annoying
I'm sure I read something somewhere that Cillit Bang deliberately made their advert look bad so that people talked about it more.
Surely its discrimination.
Their logic: women are safer drivers, therefore get cheaper insurance.
That cant be legal. I see you can sign up for a quote as a male, but why do we have to pay more?
Im going to start my own company and advertise for staff.
My (theorectical) logic: men are better workers, therefore get paid more.
You cant play the sexism card both ways ladies!

I dont think its fair and something should be changed
Yeah, I think it should be illegal. Women are safer drivers are they? My 6 years NCB and clean licence says otherwise, IMO.
This is dredging something up I watched ages ago o nteh tv.
Anyway, women have far fewer accidents then men, hence cheaper insurance. The reason for this is that on average men do far more miles per year than women, once accidents per mile is worked out think its the same for both, or slightly in favour of blokes (probably due to more experience, due to more miles). One thing thats worth looking at is limited mileage policies, the should in theory tip make things cheaper. But many insurance company's are now hitting high mileage driver, think tesco does.
Back to the illegal use of capture cards:
1) They can read what is on your TFT just like a CRT using special electromagical forces beyond your control *unless you've leaded out your room*
2) They can detect the tuner itself afaik, including digital ones
3) If you do not own a license, yet they can detect a tuner in your house, they can get a warrant if you refuse access to your property.
tbh, everything I want to watch on TV is ripped and bittorrented for now, and it's only a matter of time before someone comes up with directTV to your PC at reasonable cost - allowing me to select the channels I watch and NOT pay the TV license. Beauty is it can be broadcast from America or Australia, and it wouldn't matter to me.
If I lived in a house where the TV license wasn't paid for me (like the house I'm going to move into) I'm not buying one, or a TV. My PC does a much better job and I'd be happy listening to BBC Radio 4 for entertainment or playing a game, or dare I say it, leaving the house???
One of my friends got caught by them with a van outside his flat whilst he was using his analog TV card on his TFT. They'd logged the times and dates, got a court order and issued a fine.
What annoys me most is the number of letters I'd get in my flat saying 'you've not paid your TV license', even when I had - shortly followed by theatening letters etc. I rang them a few times telling them that X doesn't live here, we did, we have the license etc. When I cancelled my license and just used the PC (no tuner), we got three inspectors in a week banging on our door. Again I rang 'em, told 'em and the girl on the phone told me she couldn't understand why I didn't pay for their forced services and she couldn't get by without eastenders... says a lot really.

Yeah they might be able to do all that, but they generally don't. All they do is look up their computer and say "he hasn't got a license, he must be breaking the law". Every few months or so my cousin get a letter saying he hasn't payed his license, of course not, he doesn't watch TV. Until recently he didn't even own a TV, now he has one but has no areal, it isn't tuned in and he only watched DVDs.
on the insurance thing though. The EU wanted to ban women only insurance saying it was descrimination, but it was eventually overturned. So this has been brought up and challenged.
The 'women are safer drivers' thing does confuse me.
I take it this statement takes into account the proportion of female drivers on the roads as compared to men?
The M4 was chocka with female HGV/Van/taxi/coach drivers this morning.
Not.
