yea im all for stupid threads that make you laugh and have no point, it makes things a bit easier to read for myself as i can sit and read serious threads ALL the time.. but IMO you are out of order to state any admins pointing a single person out, if YOU can see ANYWHERE in Matts thread where he mentions that this who thing was based around one person then ill hold my hand up and admin I am wrong for what I have posted here..

Personally i love the spaminess in GD, makes it feel all formal compared to all the other sections. (more like conversations that serious discussions). Also, seeing as hovering your mouse over the title reveals the first few lines of text, relevant titling doesnt seem totally required to me :/

(I'm allowed to do that ya see )

Right.....SPAM and MEANINGLESS TWADDLE. What makes it like it is?

Well, for one thing, it's simple as doing what Matt said. Really easy actually.

Think before engaging finger and put the foot on the other shoe.
The irony of this is that it's turned into a half decent debate. OK, we didn't NEED a debate, but t least you're all THINKING about it.

Elmo, mate...you're very rarely outta line anymore. I've told you that before. In fact even Pyle, who I openly admit to PM'ing about being less spammy, took it the right way and took it like man

So, the simple fact is this: We love you all BUT I want you all to think of one thing.

If you just wandered by here for the very first time, and read a few threads, WOULD YOU FEEL ALIENATED by a bunch of weirdo's who all know each other?

    I would and I wouldn't sign up

But if it was several degree higher, cleverer, more intelligent, brighter, more focused (like Hexus.net is all the time) then we'd be signing up loads more clever, bright, sharp folks.

    Ya seeeeeeeee?

Since i have joined here, it seems its got more and more like a dictatorship...
The sig sizes have changed 3 times, and the rules keep getting worse and worse...

it seems to me like "here is general discussion, but its not general at all, u can only talk about certain things"
every forum that has general discussion, has the spam threads, its the way it is. its almost like ur scared of someone influencial coming on the forum seeing it and saying thats it, this site is no longer #1 for computer stuff... in reality, thats not gonna happen, if ur #1 now, someone seeing discussion forum isnt going to change that.
agreed topic titles such as !!!!!!! are a little OTT, but if a topic is named right, it shouldnt matter what the topic is aslong as its family safe!

seriously people, your really calling the hexus rules too strict........ ho ho ho compared to *that popular mafia themed computer forum* these rules are so laid back its laughable.

I love the way Hexus is run, striking a lovely balance. Sure new rules have to come in because the community is growing, but at least (despite hexus's affiliation to scan) i can still say..... Microdirect, Ebuyer and Komplett! and OcUK isnt a starred out term

May I suggest the admins make a stickied thread in General discussion just for MSN being down?

A lot of people get errors, and also a lot of the time when the network is down, it is not reported on the MS Server Staus site.

You having a laff? Thats just stupid.

Why does the fourms have to be some kind of alternative to MSN and visa versa anyway. Personally i hate MSN with a passion, but they are totoally different thing for different usage.

The key is showing restraint. Have fun but try and be cool with it. You would not go into a pub and start constantly babbling random nonsence at random people like a 10 year old idiot. People would soon get sick of you, maybe even leave the pub. Just because something is silly/funny/off the wall, does not mean it cant have a point, or some meaning or even be usful.

no one is saying they want to have a random chatty conversation in GD, they just want it to be a bit less serious than the rest of the forum. the intelligent and constructive stuff is in every other part of the forums, surely GD can be the one place where we can just kick back and not worry about if what we're posting will be classed as spam or not.

Zakky, thankyou. This is due more to the fact that i dont really feel right starting threads incase they're viewed as unneeded or spam, and i try to post constructive posts when i do.

I dont agree with mmh that this is turning into a dictatorship, cos i'm well aware of FAR worse forums, i just think that the freedom to post what we like shouldnt be restricted in such a way. More to allow us to essentially, self moderate ourselves. Sure, if some people step out of line then they should be dealt with. We ALL know where the line is, but saying "dont post spammy threads in GD" isn't drawing a line. Everyone's idea of spam is different, hence my reluctancy to post new threads.

I just dont want to see the fun side of hexus go down the pan, cos we have a fab community on here and some funny characters, and to see that being suppressed would sadden me

As i said at the start, allow us to have out wee bit of fun in GD (within reason, obviously), leave the clever, and intelligent posts to the other forums.

    I can't join at work.

Also, a quick and dirty way to get rid of threads without descriptive titles is to eliminate the mouse over function, where it gives a preview of the thread when a user hovers over the link. I usually won't enter a thread if it has a crappy title, but with the hover, I just hover over some thread titled "OMG!!!!!!!!" to see if I want to read it.

No need to start all this crap because of one bad thread title, and if it was so bad rename it! That's what you mods are for, MODERATING!.

    Again i agree.
Its a public forum, if you dont want members of the public posting stuff them dont allow any more sign ups...or make the admin approve every single one.

Oh teh noes!!!!111 not everyone is 100% serious on here...end of the world tbh.
