Quite an odd list. Seems quite arbitrary. I mean, why would Terminator 2 be there and not Terminator (or T3 for that matter)? T2 was mediocre at best, with an execrable ending. T3 at least re-established the darkness of the first film.
What about The Thing (both versions!)? I'd second Blade Runner as well. and

Silent Running (an all-time favourate of mine).

The thing to bear in mind with this list is it is not intended to be a '50 bestest films ever'. It's 50 films that have been classed as important/groundbreaking/profound. Each of them has contributed to the industry in quite important ways, even if the storyline was guff or it wasn't what would be considered a box office smash.

These are 50 films that you really should see, absorb and most importantly have an opinion on wether that be good or bad.

I thought about that but I bet the majority of viewers didn't really want technically revolutionary films in one way or another - they were probably after just great films with great plots and acting. In a way I think that's a mistake of C4.

Yeah.. i wondered why one should see Lost In Translation gets a mention, while other recent films such as the matrix trilogy or LOTR doesn't get a mention.

Glad to see Hero there though

That still doesn't make sense to me. If it was so, then why isn't Citizen Kane, Seven Samurai, Pi, Un chien andalou, Metropolis or Neighbours (not the aussie soap, the 1952 short). Apart from possibly Pi they are all much more groundbreaking films than most of the ones on the list.

Because the list is picked by a minority panel whose opinions are not necessarily the same as everybody elses. For it to be a proper 'top 50' it would have to a be 'as voted by the viewers'.
