ignorance is not an excuse, if it was there'd be alot less ppl in jail.
its border line racism tbh some of the comments like she wants to be white get pretty close to the line and even if you dont agree with that its blatant bullying.

Why the hell is jade famous for being a moron, kind of makes a mockery of ppl who work hard.

well as I was told quite forcefully by a manager at my place of work that i couldnt suffer rascism because I was white it is quite a widely held view

Jade is a celebrity? =O Shows how much I follow those things. The only Big Brother I regularly followed was the first season. Heck, I might have voted for Anna, or thought of it.

I caught a couple of episodes on season 3 through sheer coincidence. I thought Katie was pretty fit, and I was shocked by some of the things that Jade spouted. Though I remembered her that way (and the fact she wasn't quite as appealing as Kate), I didn't expect that she'd be seen after. But looking at the Wiki, she's done very well for herself since o.O

On a side note, what is the opposite of 'racist'? I quick antonym search on google shows 'tolerant' but that is not the word I am looking for. I know there are some people who may have a certain adoration towards certain race. It makes me wonder though, if a negative bias toward a race is a big issue (which I think it is), how about the opposite (still prejudicial in a way)?

Danielle said: "You don't know where those hands have been."

"Jade Goody's mother, Jackiey Budden, repeatedly referred to Shilpa as "the Indian" while she was featured on the show and was unable to pronounce her name."

Personally, I'd regard that as racist; with regard to the first comment, it's blatant. With regard to the second, would that comment have been made if she was white? Don't think so. And with regard to the third, sorry, however much of a retard the woman may be, to claim to be unable to pronounce Shilpa Shetty is ludicrous.
Are those three comments the fuss all over the news today has been about?

The first one just strikes me as a stupid person saying something stupid because a badly cooked curry has probably given her the runs at some point.

The second one just sounds like something you'd say if they were trying to bully someone, theres nothing about race mentioned (in the quote at least).

As for the third, people are forgetting that it was spouted by the pile of human excrement that produced jade goody, if Shilpa Shetty appears on an teleprompter infront of her she probably doesn't want to look as stupid as her daughter and so doesn't even bother trying to pronounce it, I imagine if there was an irish guy in there with a name that wasn't beyond obvious in pronunciation she'd have said "the irish guy" its not really racist to call someone by their nationality.

I havn't watched any of it myself, nor have I seen any clips on the news so I'm only basing my opinion on nich's quotes but it doesn't really seem like the people are being racist, seems more like stupid people with no grasp of wit or sarcasm ganging up on someone.

Even if it is vaugley racist (again I havn't actually seen any of it) isn't the whole point of big brother to show what people are really like in certain social situations? It certainly isn't channel 4's fault that there might be slightly racist stupid celebrities in the house.

I can't say that I find the third one racist, short of accepting that myself, am too. Every now and then, I may forget, or simply not know the name of someone I may have frequently seen but not spoken to. Or even more innocently, I may know several people with the same first name (and not know the last name). That's when I have to use some kind of trait to refers to the specific person. I try to keep it positive or at least neutral, but sometime, I do think that the most outstanding (as in, visible) aspect is the skin colour. So I may saying "the black guy" for instance. But I am certainly not being prejudicial there. Heck, in the case of 'multiple people with the same first name', there is someone in our class some classmates would refer to as 'the fat one' to differentiate. That's usually when I go 'ah, the one who lived London' (or 'the London one' for short). I wouldn't think that's offensive. In fact, in this context, 'fat' gets the point across, but somehow I think it has a more negative sound to it (though the people using it don't mean it in a bad way either).

The thing I want to know about this debate is why Indians, and people around that area of the world feel the need to run outside to the nearest news camera and burn something they don't agree with. Why is there always a camera there? Why do they have to burn things? Union flags, American flags, cbb producer models (how long did it take to make?)

It's a mystery how one area of the world can see/hear something on the news they don't like, rush the street parade burning things, whilst crying and firing AKs into the air.

Anyone shed any light on that?

    Tell me I'm wrong!

When's the last time you set something on fire in protest? I just think it's convenient how there's always cameras around to capture the moment.

Seems like a fuss about nothing from the clips I have seen on
    youtube.

Not being able to say shilpa isnt really something to get annoyed about some people just cant catch things like that. Just think about how you say karaoke, or even perhaps sudoku.
The amount of people who say suh'kuuduu amazes me.

Big fuss over very little really.
