Did anyone see BBC london just now? Had an interview with Network Rail guy - he basically said 'Sorry, we were crap. We know what to do and didn't do it - tonight better staff and resources will be doing what they need to do'
The underground stuff was blamed on one subcontractor who run some lines - other lines were apparently fine as procedure was followed.
I hate London, id rather live in a shed in a field, that live in London.
I hate the transport system in London. They see the new year as an excuse to increase fare price even more. I mean I don't care about the politics and debate behind this all but it's really expensive now for us young poor kids - the least they could provide is better service T_T.
And WHHHHHHHHHY is it so difficult to top up your Oyster cards?!?! Many newsagents don't do it, or some used to do it but not anymore, and Walthamstow Central station you can't even top it up, but a short while ago they put a little machine there which always has a huge queue. You can't even top up in the newsagents in Walthamstow Central bus station >_>.
I moved to London 2 years ago...
Bus was 80p
6months later £1
6months later £1.50
6months later (present) £2
That is a VERY large price increase over 2 years, travel cards have gone up just as quickly...
As i said in my 1st post - Cant wait to leave London on tuesday!!

seriously, TFL is cheap considering its the UK and the size of the tube network.
My oyster works flawlessly, and it cost me about £880 a year.... okay thats a lot, but thats unlimited zone2 travel, no matter how pissed i get, theres a night bus every 30mins. Thats nice!
As for work, the problem i have is when its the 5minuites late, it just makes me look bad.
As for the weather today, my commute (jube) was fine, only slightly over croweded, but that was probably due to cyclists/drivers deciding to tube it instead. Seriously, what the hell are people moaning about!
When you think of its in £1 per mile, its really not that bad at all, given the convience, i think TFL really aren't bad at all. Mabye a little more expensive that other contries, but this is england, land of the tax.

Depends what area of London you live in. Buses here in Ilford/Walthamstow/Edmonton/Leytonstone/Chingford/Redbridge/other East-into-Central areas are kinda horrible and the Oyster service is generally shabby in terms of support. I love the tube though apart from the price.
If you're well paid I wouldn't complain at all - put the system barely has any mercy for youngsters and students.
No they haven't- nothing like, in fact. They may have gone up 20%, or something, but no way have they gone up 150%. TFL have made no attempt to hide the fact that the increase in cash fares is purely a stick to beat people into getting Oysters or buying travelcards.
It's fine here in the South (where I work) and South East (where I live). But hey- if it sucks where you are, write to TfL and put a rocket up their arses for having an Oyster-centric transport system in an area where it's a PITA to top up your Oyster.Originally Posted by unreal
What, apart from giving anyone who's in "sixth form" type education (college etc.) free bus/tram travel and half price travelcards? And giving students in Higher education a 30% discount off bus passes and travelcards? If you're well paid I wouldn't complain at all - put the system barely has any mercy for youngsters and students.
When I was a student I got precisely no discount on travel at all (at least not because I was a student, I had an Under-26 National Express card), and buses were crap and expensive. Nowadays they're (IMHO) far from crap and very good value as long as you're not paying cash.
Dooms - where are you moving to?
When I was 14 I had to get a child rate photocard to prove that I was a child and entitled to pay the child fare. Nowadays, 14 and 15 year olds are supposed to have a child oyster card (which costs a fiver) to prove that they're under-16. Of course lots of them haven't got one, or have broken it somehow etc. It's a PITA for me as a bus driver, IMO every child however old should have an oyster, then I wouldn't have to deal with twunts jumping on claiming to be 13 despite being 6'2 with a moustache. No oyster, no ride, should be the absolute rule.
it took me 3 hours to reach home a couple of days ago. damm transport when are they ever gunna improve it
Livingstone only has full control over the buses- and they've improved massively since he became mayor of London. He has no influence over the trains, and tube maintenance is done my Metronet (who are useless) under a PFI deal Ken bitterly opposed (took it all the way to court in fact).
You can dislike Ken Livingstone if you like (I certainly do) but it's nonsense to blame him for public transport problems.
I'm one of those morons http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.p...Ken#post908018
But if you think for one second that London Transport would be much (or any) better under someone else (ie not Red Ken) then I'm afraid I think you're sorely mistaken.
They told me I was gullible ... and I believed them.
