Graphics Problem

Hi there folks, ive been having a problem recently with my graphics card, when ever I play call of duty
4 or brothers in arms (the latest one), during the game, the screen freezes, sometimes it gets back to normal, some times I have to open the task manager, which minimizes the game window, and then upon restoring the window the game starts working, ive played farcry 2 as well, it doesnt hang on me like this, ive tried the latest drivers, the card is MSI NX8600GT, its passively cooled but I have attached a fan under the card ( in the PCI slot ) so it blows directly over the heat sink, cant be a cooling issue, the temps are fine, 50C idle ( the 8600gt is hot ) and 62C load, sounds reasonable.

What could the issue be? Any suggestions are welcome, thanks!

Hmmm have you tried defragging your hard drive? Just a thought. Or since it sorts itself out when you drop back to the desktop perhaps you should check your memory is all right, it will dump the game out of memory when you go back to the desktop and then when you go back in its fine because its no longer addressing the bad section of memory.

Again just some thoughts it doesn't sound like a graphics card fault really they normally show up as artefacts and when they happen they don't tend to go away on their own from a quick process switch.

hmm, should i rem memtest then? just to mention, once or twice during the freeze I did see some artifacts, but minor, like the water in the game, or the road etc...if that matters.

Have you got any Antivirus software or malware software etc working in the background which is constantly doing things which interrupts the game? Could you turn them off temporarily to see if that helps?

Well if your pc is the one in your specs then it could be the psu haveing problems when your system is under load

but more likely I'd guess it's the overclocked memory.

Running memtest to check and/or dropping the memory down to stock setteings and see if you can repeate the lockup would be a good start.
