80w vs 115w...
The 55nm fab means that the chip runs cooler, therefore the fan doesn't need to spin as fast... therefore quieter... And less heat to affect the rest of the system... plus EVGA being a MUCH better company than XFX...
Ah right, didn't realise it was that much.
That being said, unless they've changed the fan speed settings it will still run at the same speed in idle as the 65nm version. Only when you are gaming will it be quieter, so to be honest, any reduction in noise will be lost on most people.
Yeah, the noise issue isn't overly important to me.
But, with EVGA you get the limited lifetime warranty (does it equate to 10 years in the UK like BFGs?), and access to EVGA's step up program for 90 days, so if in the next 3 months i want more and what to go for a GTX280 (or god help me, GTX2*5) then all i have to do is pay the difference...
So personally, i think that it is worth the extra £20 or so...
And my dodgy reasoning behind the SSC is that less people buy them, therefore they are less likely to run out of stock, and my need for a card to complete a report is getting more urgent, so i can do without stock discrepancies
Also, i may well be wrong about temperatures, as the chip does run cooler, BUT, they have chopped down the cooler (just read a reviewy thingy now)...
Yeah the warranty does seem better, I just couldn't justify the extra outlay when the card is going to be replaced in an year or less.
I'm not so sure about the step-up program, I've heard it's overpriced and shipping is expensive.
The strange thing is, from the reviews I've seen the 65nm version consumes slightly less power in games than the 55nm, while the 55nm version consumes slightly less power in idle mode. I guess the latter is better, but the difference is pretty small. They have also reduced the size and number of heatsinks on the 55nm cooler, a cost cutting exercise I expect, so cooling performance really isn't any better.

Yeah, the chip power for load is down but the overall power under load is up (or something along those lines), due to a PCB makeover, but idle tends to be more important as unless browsing teh intarwebz suddenly leaps into web 3.0 and becomes graphically tasking, overall, (for me anyway) the power consumption is lower
Plus with the 55nm you get a longer name, and everyone knows longer names are cooler...
Indeed, although very shortly I'll have a Internet and Office Pc, maybe a shuttle or something to save space. Then just use the main pc for gaming and overclocking, so won't be an issue and might even save some money on the electric bill!
LOL! Very True! Longer for the win!
thanks alot to whoever mentioned buying it on today only. Got it cheaper and therefore managed to buy a 140mm sharkoon 900rpm fan and a 120mm Scythe S-FLEX 1200rpm fan! huzzah!

I was kinda disappointed with the EVGA GTX260 55nm SSC in the box bundle.
1x DVI to VGA adapter.
2x 2x 4pin molex to 6pin PCIe power cables.
I was kinda hoping for a DVI to HDMI adapter, SPDIF cable and maybe component breakout cable.
Mirror's Edge voucher doesn't count.
who cares, the card is bloody awsome. im playing crysis in dx10 at everything on very high settings and although im only getting 25fps it still silky smooth and playable.
i really couldnt care what comes with the card, performance is what counts and all the extra's liek far cry 2 and mirrors edge is a bonus
awsome game
I dunno I'm just not feeling the love for this card, at least not like I did with my EVGA 9600GT SC.
FC2, Crysis, Mirrors Edge are all over glorified tech demos IMO.
But I got to say CoD4:MW, CoD:WaW, Left 4 Dead do look stunning.
Well I think it's growing on me, I had no idea just how many games were locked at 60fps and it's nice to turn up the AA/AF.
Anyone else having heat issues, mine idles at 47-54°C and in game 78-92°C with the fan set at auto default 40. No lockups or artifacts yet.
