Anyone Know When The Next Gen Nvidia Cards Are Being Released

Only 10%?....for the non-flagship model. As has been said before, the "real 680" is being held back, this should have been the 660ti or 670.

Based on that, all the numbers (except the price-tag) are excellent.

It is the flag-ship model though with a flagship price?? All noise indicated the GK110 will be out probably around Q3 or Q4 2012,unless the GTX680 is the shortest reigning top Nvidia card ever.

So are you upgrading to this card for BF3??

@shaithis: All speculation, if you read around there are also people saying it's just rumours created by Nvidia. The same could be said about Tahiti, it has plenty of clock + power headroom.

Speculation....yet they have just released details of the GK110 chip later this year.....which sounds like the true flag-ship card.

No. Not enough of a difference for the (inflated) price tag. Will wait for GK110.....who knows, the next couple of months might see a price war that makes the 680 or 7970 seem worthwhile.....but I ain't holding my breath.

So the white paper answers a couple of questions in this thread:

-GPU boost is up to a TDP ceiling and working as I postulated.
-encoding acceleration is fixed function hardware, not CUDA cores

You're basically saying it's OK that it's x amount faster than a 7970 'because it's not the real 680', despite the fact it costs about the same. By that reasoning, it would be OK for Nvidia to release a card that's twice as fast but charge £2000 for it because it's teh real thing? Besides being pro-Nvidia it makes no sense?

Pricing is what matters; the 680 costs flagship prices, it is Nvidia's fastest card, so it is the flagship. Simple...

It's faster but the same price........but I am not buying one because I want to wait for something that makes more of a difference (especially @ 1600p).....and that makes me pro nvidia?

Please explain how you work that one out?

I agree, but there is the anticipation of what comes later. By itself it doesn't matter if it's the flagship card or not, but if it gives clues that a better card is coming out in the near future that may influence some people. However I don't think it should in any meaningful way - yes, the new/revised architecture looks promising, and it bodes well for the next generation of cards (GK11x).. but they are ultimately that - a next generation, not this generation. So if you aren't happy with the current 'flagship' performance you should of course wait for the next generation of cards (from both AMD and nVidia), but it's not worth holding back just for the sake of something else being faster in 6-9months time - that's a given whenever.

The point is there will ALWAYS (at least with the current trend) be a faster card coming out in the future. Saying one card is somehow more impressive because the brand are releasing another one soon is just...?

Waiting for the next gen makes sense, implying the 680 is a better card because of your reasoning makes no sense whatsoever.
