    AGP 6600 vs 6800

im wondering if i should upgrade my gfx card to either a 6800 (dont really wanna spend £300, and the video processing is borked, apparently) or go for a 6600 - but is it just me or are there not any 256mb AGP cards out there???

will mainly be gaming, using as a PVR and watching movies

i am currently using a 5700LE Personal cinema (hence the PVR)

    any help is greatly appreciated

    thanks in advance

well if you have the cash go for the 6800 (im assuming it is a gt?) but if you realy dont wanna spend that much then get the 6600gt.....they are both excellent cards, but the 6800gt is much better but much more expensive

if you wanna look real cool think about splashing out and getting an SLI motherboard...then buy two cheap 6600gts, they will be cheaper (i think) than one 6800gt and will go just that little bit faster, however they will require the motherboard which adds to the price overall

The 6600GT and 6800LE are, so far as I know, pretty similar in performance. However, with the 6800LE, you have the chance to unlock pipes. I think that both the 6800 and 6800GT are worth the boost in performance if you're willing to spend the money - however, your CPU would probably bottleneck a 6800GT.

Don't get a 6800 if your gonna be watching lots of movies. Especially as things stand atm. I think the main problems are with divX and WMV-HD files.

to put it this way, i have my gainward 6800le at 12pp 6vp and using 3d mark03 i got 9400 points with this card on mi sig system, i got 6400pts at stock, 8pp 4vp

but i have heard that 6600gts get to about 8000, i know this is a synthetic benchmark, but it puts the two cards relative to each other, so at stock the 6800le will be about the same as the 6600gt, so if you can unlock it, its a bonus!!!

i got my 6800le for £130 so couldnt be more pleased,

but yes, if you do intend to use your pc for multi-purposes, watching full screen dvds videos etc, then definitely go for the 6600gt, they can be got quite cheaply!

    so good luck and enjoy!!!

I just got a 6600 gt and it is great for hl2 and kind of handles chronicles of riddick at high settings but I think the shader thing is causing the slowness (does this game need more power than anything else?) so I'm happy.
