i've held off moving from CRT to TFT for years because i couldn't be sure that the colour and black point quality couldn't be guaranteed by any 1 manufacturer - i looked at apples displays and held back..

i've been watching the progress of Formac's TFT's and the 2010 is simply stunning, trounces any other 20" TFT out there for the money..

there are much more expensive TFT's out there that don't even come close to the black point and colour quality of the 2010 (which is Pantone approved)

i am very happy with mine

i use to own a 19'' CRT moniter and was reluctant to go tft cuase veryone saying TFT no good for games and sh*T but I needed to, i barely had enough space on the desk for an ashtray. so i bought the dell 2405FPW and LOOKs MUCH BETTER than my crt in all aspects. now when i look at the old moniter it looks like a pieace of sh*t. i could never go back CRT.

Erm, this thread is 6 months old!

I did in the end go TFT, LG1915S.

Plus Points: Larger screen size compaired to a 19" CRT, Auto Image Adjustment so the screen is always centered (no messing about with alignment/adjustment settings), starts up faster, takes up less space, lighter, nice bright image with good colours.

Negative Points: Ghosting (Seems normal these days unless you shell out mega money for a screen), chances of dead pixels (gladly I didn't get any)

I had a TFT monitor which had a response time of 25ms up until a couple of months ago and I can tell you that (despite it being slow in comparison to todays models of monitor) I had no problem with ghosting on it.

At first I thought TFT montiors were going to be bad (due to the smaller size at the time) and that I'd heard about the ghosting problem, but I haven't had any such effects with TFT monitors.

I couldn't imagine going back to CRT monitors, it seems to be a step backwards which I'm not willing to take.

one thing I would say is if you are going to buy a tft is to spend as much as possible - e.g. if you have £300 buy an expensive 17" rather than a 19"

I spent alot on a Sharp LL-172GB with DVI after reading alot of reviews, and havent been dissapointed, but have seen people with cheaper 17" panels (sub £200) without DVI etc and they dont look great

You don't really notice ghosting til you look for it, but it's not really a problem for me and doesn't show up in games. But you can find it if you look on the desktop.

DVI makes little diffference, but I do agree that you get what you pay for.

It may not make a big difference in terms of TFT/VGA and TFT/DVI.

But a big difference with CRT/VGA and TFT/VGA

    I have a 19" 1280x1024 TFT running on DVI and a 17" 1280x1024 CRT running on VGA.

Sharpness is significant and very noticeable.

TFT's tend to be very sharp and crisp anyway, you can't really compare a CRT to a TFT with regards to connection type. Of course DVI is better for a TFT, but the differences between a TFT using a VGA connection and a TFT using a DVI connection are minimal. It's more the quality of the screen than anything else.

Can't say I've ever used VGA on my TFT anyway. Hence the first line of my post

Yes I did spot that but I just went over the main point again so that people don't get the wrong idea. My TFT is VGA, if I had the money I'd get a higher quality (ie more expensive screen), but I don't and this one is more than good enough atm.

I'll never go back to CRT. Even the CRT with refresh rates at 100-120 Hz I can still notice the flickering and the letters on the screen seem a little fuzzy compared to the LCD.

I had no problem with the image quality of a CRT, the only problems were the physical size and weight of them. I do know what you mean about the flickering, they can be affected by speakers and so on. As for the letters, never noticed that, cleartype on XP gives you a noticable improvment for text on both CRT's and TFT's.
