Help I Think My New 6800 Has Cooked!!

    Hi !

I am new to OC'ing & Gaming so please bear with me!
I brought a new 6800LE last week.Dowloaded the Guru 7.1.8.1 Drivers (not extreme vers) and succesfully opened the 16 pipes with Rivatuner. So then i ran 3dMark05 with a score of 3540 with no artifacts!.. Oh and pre softmod score was 3240 (without softmod)! So now i try a game (Farcry) with the 16 pipes open. I ran the autodetect settings in the games configuration, which returns with a poultry recommended LOW setting! So i thought nothing of it and ran the game at high settings, but as soon as i get in the games beggining (training/caves) everything is bright yellow! So i play on a bit and then the grass has all black squares over it.."Oh **** i'm thinking" So then i try the card with the softmod off,but its even worse! So please can you help...Is the card cooked and should i send it back or could it be another problem. And why did it run OK in 3DMark05?

Sounds like some of the pipes/verts you opened are b0rked.

    Try closing some

Have you tried getting the latest patches for Far cry (I think patch 1.3.1 is the latest) and also if 3dmarks05 ran fine then I doubt you have killed your card.

I had a similar issue with a 6600gt for a Sli machine, worked fine in 3dmark, but as soon as you played Halo, Rise of Nations the screen just broke up into white polygons, and ground to a halt, but C&C Generals ran fine...RMA'd it and was confirmed faulty

I have tried to load the 1.31 patch from the desktop as well as farcry's bin 32 but keep getting error "load patch"! Also do you have to have the previous patches or are the new ones backdateable? Or could it be my farcry is not a registered version

Re olly1234; RMA'd it and was confirmed faulty!

What is this and how to i do it?

Yes, we do know what you mean, and I'd stay very quiet about this if I were you. Discussion of warez is strictly frowned upon here.

    Lighten up dude.

WannaBGeek, I would try a completely different game, get hold of some demos, and test your card etc. You could also try the AquaMark software as well, to see if you have any problems. If you havent got a legit copy of far cry then I wouldn't use this as a test for your card, also patches dont usually work with a 'cracked' copy.

Download the demo of farcry and try that - then u can rule out if its your copy of the game or not.

Cheers for your great response guys!
I just remembered i did play farcry for over a month with a softmoded 9800SE and it played smooth as hell on high settings! Shame about the patch, but i was gonna buy game anyway!
So i now am gonna try and instal Doom3.. "Don't worry SCHMUK ITs Legit"! ..And see how that fairs as its more intensive than Farcry.."I think"! And then maybe run Aquamark,as suggested! And maybe try another driver on Farcry. And if that don't work i just hope the "ebay"dude takes the card back! By the way he won't be able to tell i've SM'd it will he?

I had the same problem with my 6600gt agp on NF7-v2, Far cry was bright yellow with bits out of place, so got 1.3 patch and now everything is great!

I think flashing your bios would void the warrenty (not that they would check if you RMA it though)

I meant my Mobo's Bios. My Mistake!

johnnr892: Nice to hear you had the same prob..Makes me feel a lot better now
I also tried Doom3 earlier and it played smooth on Meduim settings @1024x768 with no Artifacts. After that i applied the RivaTuner softmod and ran the game on high settings @1024x768 No Artifacts this time i was amazed how different doom played and looked, it ran soo smooth not even the usual freeze when doors open! Also a relief as i half expected it to show Artifacts after Farcry's episode!
So can i safely assume that it was missing patch that caused the grief in farcry?
